Hey all! Few facts regarding Dawn to get sorted:

1. Dawn has been and will always be free. We will not accept any money for our mod.
1b. We will implement DLC checks to lock you out of content you do not own. In order to access said content, you will have to purchase the DLCs through steam on the account you want to play on. No family sharing is allowed. This ensures no content in live game can be played for free in Dawn.
2. Our client and everything that pertains to it is open source. It contains no malicious files, we have security researchers on our team to help ensure no malicious code or intent is there. Feel free to go through the code yourself.
3. our server code must remain closed source, because as far as its aware, it mimics a lot of functions that the live servers still carry, which open sourcing will lead to trouble in the live game, in case we mimic some architecture 1:1, which we don't want at all.
4. We will not have any microtransactions! Everything will be earnable in-game, including silver.

insane how everyone on reddit becomes a lawyer overnight. let me set some facts straight. the dawn client is a fork of sunrise, for now. we are rewriting it from the ground up for 0.2, and it will contain 0 code from sunrise. we pushed it as is so YOU guys could have content. the server will be private because A, it is incredibly close to how bungie does their things, if someone wants to spend time and effort reverse engineering this shit, they can, and I'm not tryna deal with that. B, if we release it, then servers pop up everywhere with MTX, which defeats the whole purpose and will a 100% get C&D'd. C, There will 0 MTX. 0 Donations. NOTHING WILL EVER BE MONETIZED. NO PAYWALL. NO PATREON. NO SUBSCRIPTION. We do not distribute everything, so armchair lawyers PLEASE get off my ass. We HAVE consulted legal advice for this. All server costs will be fronted by ME. THEY are not that much, because it will be a distributed workload across EKS and ELB. WE HAVE TESTED THIS. I CAN AFFORD 300$ A MONTH IN SERVER COSTS. THANK YOU!
