WGAE writer/director fueled by gallows humor, caffeine, and skates. Author of Spider Baby novelization. Wednesday Addams x Mrs. Maisel. Find me in bluer skies.
I'm going to try and light a candle to curse the darkness of Twitter. X whatever it is.
Here's a hopefully useful thread about the importance of emotion in your pitching and story meetings if you get in front of executives, and how to use a well-crafted deck to your advantage.
What are we watching this weekend?
I just discovered Kanopy and signed up with my library card, so I'll be streaming THERE WILL BE BLOOD with my tax dollars at work!
A Friday reminder...
Scripts will be sold.
Writers hired.
Movies produced.
TV shows made.
And dreams realized.
Why not you? Me?
No one said it would be easy.
And Mr. Goldman was right.
Now, go write the movie or show Hollywood doesn't know it wants... until you show it to them.
@ThisisKaia@storyshowing It’s always high concept. Concept is king.
There are a very limited number of screenplay competitions worth mentioning.
No one cares if you won “Best Screenplay at the Camas, Washington Screenplay Competition”.
They care if they can sell your script and you as a writer.
A huge mistake early writers make is that they limit their focus on the "best" way to launch their screenwriting career.
However, every path in is so different, and each story of someone's success is a product of that time and their unique situation.
All of it made tougher because so many around you want to scoff and say, "that's a waste of time."
Yet, the best strategy is to attack every angle possible with all the limited resources you have.
Be smart; don't go flailing about, but you don't want to look back and wonder, "If only I tried this..."
If your screenplay is genuinely ready (and that is a very big if), get it out there. In any way you can.
Every big step I took in my career seemed to come out of left field.
Lots of posts about screenwriting and rejection of late. This part of the game sucks! May I humbly suggest creating your version of my "Dayna Fucking Rocks!" folder? I save positive emails, notes, and wins in it to read on rainy days. You fucking rock, too!

Major #scriptshoutout to @ZackMorrison18 for his funny AF/realistic AF pilot LIVE FROM STUDIO 7C!!
This excellent story takes us BTS on a late night show leading us in real time to opening curtain.
We root for Zelda as she navigates her dream of one day making the writers room.
A 🧵 about producing/directing my first microbudget feature. We had an amazing time and made a thousand mistakes (give or take.)
Thought I'd share a few of the lessons/realizations I made along the way. Your mileage may vary.

A novelization of SPIDER BABY by @DaynaDirector has been published via @EnPocalypsePub.
The Merrye children all suffer from a rare genetic malady that causes its victims to mentally regress to a condition of pre-human savagery and cannibalism.
