I saw a post yesterday where someone was trying to draw a straight line between American Big Tech and the quality of content in African social media.
They argued a weird type of "algorithmic" manipulation is used to promote content that support the low IQ impression the West have of Africans.

Well, it’s easy to blame imperialism, colonialism, and other isms until you find that the market actually demands for, and is ready to pay a premium for, content like this.

Africa seem to have an exaggerated sense of self to the point that for some weird reasons, there’s a consensus that should the West stop taking advantage of Africa, Africa will become paradise.
The irony is this type of worldview suggests inferiority. If you need permission to develop your society, or even worse, need permission to produce a population that demands quality social media content, then you’re not at the same level as the people you you seek permission from.

Personally, I think we should be okay with having a great conversation with a stranger and leaving it at that. Exchanging contacts isn’t always necessary. One of the beautiful things in life is being able to remember a good conversation with a random person and move on.
