Instead, even among the conservatives, who typically prefer less government interference, are pushing for more state-sponsored surveillance and "child protection". Kids these days are very tech-savvy and can easily bypass these interventions using VPNs and various other tools.

When age restrictions were rolled out in Australia, it only had a small effect on actually curbing minors' access to social media. The real fix is more parents actually parenting, not allowing the government to take away your privacy.
