So excited to finally have this article published! Kids need more opportunities to interact with their teachers and peers to grow and learn. Edtech is getting in the way and hurting, not helping!
Kids need computers in their classrooms, claimed @BillGates. But they didn't. In fact, the evidence is now overwhelming that they hinder learning. Many high-tech execs know this and send their own kids to schools that rely on paper and pencils. Schools need to go back to basics.
@MarshaBlackburn please stand strong with parents! Do not let this legislation go through with the AI moratorium! Our children need you to stand up against Big Tech and the harms of AI!
A 10-year ban on state AI regulation is a lifetime (or two) in tech development.
As @HawleyMO says in Politico today, this legislation would hurt consumers and the public as AI innovation accelerates without safeguards.

@karenvaites@SylvieMcNamara Edtech is damaging children’s ability to learn while exposing them to harms such as porn. Please checkout my recent Substack article on Restore Childhood! https://t.co/FPy4YE0xHa
@karenvaites@JonHaidt Also, here is my latest piece documenting the harms of edtech https://t.co/GjOHTCCQzH I also created a detailed timeline on edtech that may interest you: https://t.co/5rtFE3aBj1 Let's make 2025 the year we undo big tech's death grip on education!
@karenvaites@JonHaidt Karen, as a school based SLP, I have been speaking out about the harms of edtech as well. Please see my article posted last spring on Public: https://t.co/NrHjkHjkaT I have been documenting the connection between the rise of edtech and decline in test scores/mental health.
"As a society, we need to ask ourselves if we are comfortable with 10-year-olds accessing p*rn at school as a trade off for the supposed 'benefits' that the tech companies would like us to believe exist with edtech.
This should be a deal breaker and we should be up in arms. It is not safe, period."

@shellenberger@shellenberger Edtech has a huge part in the decline of student performance! AI in education will erode democracy, this is not hyperbole! We are eroding critical thinking skills by reinforcing the reliance on tech. Let’s make 2025 the year we undo big techs death grip on ed!
@shellenberger@CaseyMeansMD@calleymeans@megynkelly Just like the FDA, our education system has allowed thousands of unvetted EdTech products into our schools that are not making students smarter and are in fact dumbing down their education.https://t.co/di8hMeqm1C
