Very pleased to announce that the DeKalb Barons have won the 2022 IHSWCA Academic Challenge as the Sectional Championship team with the highest average GPA across the entire lineup!
With the Academic All-State results coming out this week, we want to congratulate Senior Landon Armstrong on being 1st team and Senior Mitch Snyder earnings honorable mention as well as Juniors Elijah Knepper and Kasey Bosell on earning first team honors!
Individually, seven Barons finish this season in the top 100 for career wins at DeKalb.
B Miller (Jr) 68 wins (29th)
M Snyder (Sr) 50 (T-52)
G Hopkins (Sr) 47 (T-61)
B Meyer (So) 47 (T-61)
L Armstrong (Sr) 44 (T-68)
M Chase (Jr) 38 (T-90)
E Knepper (Jr) 36 (T-96)
Not the day we wanted today, but some team highlights of the season were:
1st sectional title since 2007 (6th ever)
11 regional qualifiers (T-2nd in school history)
7 semistate qualifiers (T-most in school history)
8th of 40+ teams at Defiance Borderwars tournament
Elijah Knepper's first trip to semistate doesn't go as planned, falling in round one. Congratulations Eli on a great season, finishing in the finals the last 4 weeks in a row.
Braxton Miller loses a tough one to returning 5th placer at semistate after medical defaulting last week. The junior finishes the year 30-7 and with 68 wins to his credit so far in his career.
Mason Chase's comeback tour ends at the Coliseum. He falls at semistate at 120. The two time semistate qualifier will look to punch his ticket next year as a senior.
Baron sophomore Braylon Meyer sees a spectacular sophomore year end too early at 113. The two-time semistate qualifier will be hungry and back next year.
Seven Barons descend on the Coliseum for Semistate this morning. Good luck to Drew Waldon (106), Braylon Meyer (113), Mason Chase (120), Jadon Teague (138), Braxton Miller (145), Elijah Knepper (160), and Landon Armstrong (285)!
