Romans 2 is not a hypothetical moral ideal but the actual administration of the covenant of works, because the outcome Paul attaches to obedience is the sanctioned reward of eschatological glory. Eternal life is never the necessary consequence of creaturely obedience; it is only ever offered as a covenantal consequence, attached by divine oath to a federal head. That reward was held out to exactly two men in all of redemptive history—Adam under the original covenant of works and Christ under the Pactum Salutis—and to no one else. Therefore, when Paul speaks in Romans 2:7 of eternal life granted to those who persevere in doing good, he is not describing Christians, sanctification, or Spirit‑empowered obedience, but the actual reward structure of the Adamic covenant, the very standard Christ fulfilled and all in Adam fail.

@RyanHurst171@josiah_royer@RScottClark@Heidelblog01@heidelcast@HeidelbergRefo1 That is the logical conclusion of Final Justification.
Piper’s error is that he confuses what faith is vs. what faith produces. Love is not an essential part of saving faith. Saving faith is knowledge, ascent, and trust. Period.
Stop being like Rome
@RyanHurst171@josiah_royer@RScottClark@Heidelblog01@heidelcast@HeidelbergRefo1 So let me get this straight - God is holy and just. And his law says that we must love him and neighbor perfectly, personally, and perpetually. With this in mind, he is going to declare me fit for heaven based upon my best efforts?
Your understanding of God’s law is wrong.
