My work puts me in touch with SSPX members, current and former, across the globe. And this testimony tracks with their experience, including in St Mary's, KS, which has an alarmingly high rate of abuse, and some of whose priests have told women to stay with abusive husbands, and in at least one case, not to report a father who was raping his daughter.

The SSPX turned a loving and kind man, my best friend, into a man who beat his wife terribly in front of his children. I think so many of their youth turn to drugs, alcohol, and promiscuity, out of despair — they have lost hope in their salvation, and since the future holds nothing but horror and damnation, they will self-medicate to feel better now. Pope Leo XIV has issued a final appeal to the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), urging the traditionalist group not to proceed with its planned episcopal consecrations on July 1 without papal approval.

In a letter published June 30, on the eve of the consecrations in Écône, Switzerland, the Pope addressed SSPX Superior General Fr. Davide Pagliarani, asking the society to reconsider what he described as a "schismatic act."

“With Christian affection, I plead with you and ask you with all my heart: please turn back!” Pope Leo wrote.
