Child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein had deep ties to Israeli intelligence and helped to facilitate negotiations at the highest levels to serve the country’s interests abroad, a trove of hacked emails and other documents has revealed.

But if you get most of your news from mainstream media outlets, you might not have heard anything about it, despite the enthusiastic coverage devoted to recent moves in the US to release the Epstein files.

In the past three days, BBC News online has published eight articles and a video about the release of thousands of documents, mostly emails, belonging to the Epstein estate – and the mounting pressure on Donald Trump’s administration to release more.

Across all of that coverage, Israel is only mentioned once: “In one of the conspiracy theories pushed by some Maga influencers, Epstein was an agent of the Israeli government,” one article says.

Whether he was an official “agent” remains unclear, but Epstein’s efforts to further the interests of Israel are not a conspiracy theory. They have been meticulously documented for weeks by Drop Site News using hacked emails and files released by the US House Oversight Committee.

The Independent has mentioned Drop Site’s reporting in two recent stories, making it an outlier among major newspapers.

Drop Site found that Epstein, working with former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, helped Israel to build a surveillance state in the Ivory Coast. He also helped establish a backchannel between Israel and Russia aimed at bringing about regime change in Syria, and brokered a security agreement between Israel and Mongolia.

Yoni Koren, an Israeli military intelligence officer, stayed at Epstein's home in Manhattan for weeks at a time between 2013 and 2015, Epstein’s schedule shows.

Drop Site reporters Murtaza Hussain and Ryan Grim have asked why other outlets aren’t covering the story: “We’re left wondering why the rest of the media, which has demonstrated no lack of excitement when it comes to the saga of Jeffrey Epstein, has all of a sudden lost its reporting capacity.”
