A recent global study highlights a clear shift in market structure.
Institutional capital is increasingly being routed through OTC channels, with crypto OTC volumes growing 109% year-over-year in 2025, significantly outpacing exchange-based trading.
At the same time, settlement behaviour has evolved, with stablecoins now accounting for the majority of institutional OTC activity.
Despite this growth, infrastructure across many emerging markets remains underdeveloped.
A large portion of institutional flow continues to move through informal or undocumented channels, limiting transparency and access to global counterparties.
This disconnect points to a structural gap.
Platforms that are able to formalise liquidity, execution, and compliance frameworks will be better positioned to capture institutional flow as it scales.
Others risk being bypassed as market standards continue to mature.
