Wrote a whole Fulcrum article about importance of social media for networking, but why would I take my own advice?

@kchamomile if they can make depression/illness/whatever the person's own fault, they never have to worry about it happening to them.

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@kchamomile I feel like ppl don't want to admit it can happen to anyone. '-I- would cope SO much better than you, what's your problem?'

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@Karnythia Marginalized people only need to spoken for when the world is determined not to let them speak for themselves...

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@taylormattd that would be IDEAL, but it's an unrealistic expectation that just leads to anger and disillusionment when it doesn't work out

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@taylormattd we can't expect individual people to act as symbols or role models just bc they're public figures, they're still people IMO

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@taylormattd which is legit! but this is more the issue of putting faves on a pedestal, expecting them to fit a role they didn't ask for

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@taylormattd we're assigning roles to strangers bc we idolize them, but they're just people. we can't expect them to act as symbols that way

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@taylormattd Criticism is fine. It's this idea of 'i expected better', of getting mad at others for not meeting our expectations

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@thewayoftheid similar to all that 'Is X A Feminist' shit. We assign roles, expectations to strangers&then get shocked when they don't fit.

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@thewayoftheid feel like it plays into celebs-on-a-pedestal culture. we WANT our idols to be 'better' but... that's not how it works man

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@thewayoftheid 'don't let them keep getting away with it' is a nice goal but my expectations will remain low forever thx

[DeanOfAlexandra @DeanOfAlexandra]

@thewayoftheid I feel like it's usually 'don't let shit slide, don't let this keep being the norm' but like, why WOULD we expect better lmao
