Dean O'Library

#AcademicLibrary leadership. Proving once and for all it is your fault you are a lousy librarian. #Sarcasm always. My opinions are what you would like to share.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Of course I am critical of my field and the professionals in it...because we must be better today than who we were yesterday so that we truly build an inclusive community. #BlackLivesMatter #NoExcuses #Librarians in #HigherEd

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

And tomorrow some poor intern will have to pull it out of his ass.

Yesterday

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

I am ready for the weekend.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Last week I told a dean, "no" for a large-ticket database purchase. She threatened to go to the provost. Go ahead "Karen", and while there, ask the provost for my budget to be brought back up to last year's level, already a cut from the year before, so I can have 3/4-full staff.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

It's not the job, it's the ass hats that is the real problem.

Come Work with us! In support of its commitment to student success, scholarly research, and inclusive excellence, the #UDLibrary seeks an equity-minded professional to join its HR/OD Team. For the full position description and to apply, visit: https://t.co/LWiHOgI9Yu

Fastest way to lose library leadership, assume you know more about the field and work, and mansplain it to them because you studied in a library once 35 years ago and haven't set foot in a library since. #librarytwitter knows the struggle.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Speaking with a colleague about how to motivate #boomers to embrace GenX and Millenial perspectives. I said, "Give the boomers a gold watch, ask for their keys, and move on." #RealityBites #SorryNotSorry

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

I know it is the first week of the semester, but who the fuck ordered the Dumbass with an extra side of Cray-Cray Special Sauce. #librarianslivingthedream

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Speaking with a tenured faculty, who does not believe that library services are faculty support services, and I am showing my disgust in facial expressions in real time. #librarytwitter

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

I am just minding my business when two #Boomers start complaining about the state of the country and the environment. Me: You know this was the doing of your parents and your generation...there's an ice raft waiting for you. Yeah, no comeback. That's what I thought. #SuckIt

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Colleague: What does your HR department do?
Me: One person is slayin' it, while the others monitor obituaries to see who can send the email notification fastest to the all-university listserv.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Well, this is an embarrassing moment. Dislike being the one to break it to some of you #highered administration (deans in particular). You are using #equity incorrectly, or don't know what it actually means. #SorryNotSorry

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Nothing like that moment when colleagues from other departments forward resources that are 15 years old with subjects about the "new library". Sorry, but 15 years old is too new for our field. #librarianship is still working through segregation.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Walking around the stacks and what do I hear? Two gentlemen discussing aromatic memories. "Bro, my balls smell funny. They didn't smell like this before." I wish I were making this up. I wish. I so wish.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

If we really want to explore the stacks and discover new materials, maybe we should organize the stacks by book size and color. An ultimate randomized browsing opportunity.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Been away for a while...because my other duties as assigned are to serve on search committees, standing committees, working committees, and the spring break covid testing response team. :) #librarians #academiclife

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Meeting: blah blah blah, blah-bleh-bluuuuhh.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

In our office we refer to the @chronicle of Higher Education as "The Chronic" because if you aren't on cloud nine after reading it, you are doing it wrong. #librarians #highered

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

It is somehow close to 60 degre...ooooohhh, tomorrow is a ice capades day. That explains so much.

[Dean O'Library @DeanOfLibrary]

Instead of uploading proof of vaccination, I will send an invoice for all the trauma I've suffered at the hands of senior administration and leadership meetings. I believe $23,756,197 is an adequate figure, and frankly I'm giving an institutional discount. #librarians #higered
