PrEP is a daily pill which prevents HIV contraction even in cases of unprotected sexual activity. @HSELive launched their national PrEP scheme in Ireland this year. Here I am taking my first dose. @HIVIreland#Dean4Welfare#KnowYourStatus#PrEP
If I could go back to that 17 yr old closeted kid and tell him he'd be elected by 2268 students as the last Vice-President for Welfare & Equality in DCUSU and that he'd celebrate by kissing his boyfriend in a room of hundreds of people he wouldn't have believed me let me tell you
@eoin_sherry Drug testing kits also v important at SU events. This was brought in during Cody's VP year but has fallen aside in recent years. Definitely needs more focus.
Thanks for your question π
@eoin_sherry My focus is on harm reduction and decriminalisation. Students who take drugs should not be demonised, they should be helped not harm themselves.
My background in psych gives me a lot of info on drugs students use. I want to better edu students on how they work
@eoin_sherry Really important that commuters have access to services on campus as well. I'll get rid of the hot water charge, ensure 24/7 access to microwaves, and ensure 24/7 access to cereal across all campuses
Hope this answers your question π
@eoin_sherry Hey Eoin! Great question. I've been a commuter from Louth for 4 years. I want to work w/ DCUSU to lobby Matthews' coaches who currently charge students β¬220 every 20 days to reduce their fares. Also want to introduce real time on their services.
@GillianWall14 Hey Gillian! Thanks for your question. As mentioned at hustings, I think wellbeing is far more than just one thing. We need equal focus on physical, mental, and sexual wellbeing. For MH, I want to expand DCU mental health societies peer support network & publish online MH vids
@Louise_McCleery Hey Louise! I've done a big thread on wellbeing here: https://t.co/qBFllL4Z1h
Specifically for across campuses, I want to run wellbeing in the classroom trainings for teachers w/ DCU mental health society. Also think a dedicated SPC VP is important to ensure students are inc.

@GillianWall14 For physical health, I think there's a great stigma around exercise that's not addressed. People who don't feel they can join in on sport, who are intimidated by world class athletes etc. Also want to ensure students can eat every day. Will get rid of the hot water charge &
@MccormickAoife Also think it's really important to ensure access work is led by students w disabilities and not myself. I want to amplifying the voices of students w disabilities w a welfare & equality podcast. Also want to work w estate to solve double door issues around elevators
Fantastic conversations around drug use, wellbeing, and non-binary inclusion at hustings #dcusuvotes
It's time to introduce non-binary recognition in our student gender identity policy. Drugs should be decriminalised and harm reduction emphasised. Greater physical health.

Every year there are students just like me who need support. I want to be there to do that. I want to be able to look at students and say "I've been there, I have done this, and I'm still moving forward, and that's possible for you".

As difficult as it is for me to read this and to release it, I want to share the letter I gave to DCU when seeking a deferral during one of the hardest moments of my life. I know there are people who have just done the same or are thinking of it. I see you. Let's help each other.
