@HeatherLuvsDuke One way we can make ourselves more motivated to communicate intercultural is to place ourselves in these "foreign" situations. This can include traveling somewhere new, going to a cultural event or trying a new style of food. And then asking questions 2 get involved 2/2 #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke I believe that most often people avoid intercultural communication unless necessary and motivated. The book says this too on page 482, "it doesn't matter how good of a communicator you are if you are not motivated to use those communication skills" 1/2 #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke Online communication has improved intercultural relationships in my opinion. One of these ways is relational learning (page 398). Relational learning can happen through private messages between people of diffrent cultures online. They help teach culture through chats. #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke @_GordonFan Yeah for sure. Especially watching world news and reading newspapers based on world news to hear what American stations wont normally mention.
@HeatherLuvsDuke 2/2 This can be seen through examples such as the Brazilian rainforest burning. Americans largely had no idea of this catastrophic event until it had been burning for months. #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke 1/2. The pop culture we consume largely influences our cultural identity. Chapter 9 page 364 of the text talks about how most Americans only consume American pop culture. This can make us largely egocentric and oblivious to what's really going on in the world. #CMCIC19
@molly_hancock21 @HeatherLuvsDuke I agree that traditions are super important for our cultural identity! Without them the culture of Ameroca seems to default to things like fast food and obesity. #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke Pt 2 Altered history is when the history has been changed in order to serve some goal. Many parts of American history are definitely touched up to make America look better and I feel this is wrong on many levels. #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke Pt 1 I believe that countries should all maintain history and I am proud to say that America is one of the countries that does so. However, I think the way America maintains its history is biased and altered. The book writes on altered history on page 125. #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke I often worry that the pop culture of singers and musicians leaks into other countries and paints a negative picture of America, since many popular American artists sing about the use of drugs, discrimination against women, and tons of money. What do you all think? #cmcic19
