Dear White Belts, yes, you have found your true love with jiu jitsu, and yes, your oss skills will deteriorate if you don't train. But right now, do solo drills at home, nurse your injuries, do cardio drills in isolation. But please, please, please! stop congregating in a gym.
Dear White Belts, if at first you don't succeed, definitely, unequivocally, without a doubt keep cranking that sub and apply all the strength possible. Injure your partner, learn the technique wrong, depend on that strength. Don't actually try to learn.
Dear White Belts, enjoy your time at this belt, take the time to learn as much as you can, while others roll with you patiently and take things easy on you. Once you get to blue belt, it's game over, nobody will be as nice to you as they have been. Enjoy this!
Dear White Belts, be open to learning. Learn from your teammates, learn from the upper belts, learn from the other white belts, learn from your mistakes. But learn, you're not above it.
Dear White Belts, pay attention to your breathing. If you're getting your heart rate up, are muscling through, are out of breath, and gassing, while your opponent is barely breaking a sweat...stop, relax, take a deep breath, and roll to learn. #dearwhitebelts#bjj
Dear White Belts, if getting to the next belt is your only goal, or a goal at all, please pause and re-evaluate the reason you train. If it's the belt, save yourself in monthly gym membership fees and buy one online. You're welcome.
Dear White Belts, there's no winning in jiujitsu. Well, there is, but not for you. You're not there yet. Drill and roll to learn, to work on your technique, and to figure things out, NOT to tap out your opponent through any means possible.
Dear White Belts, congratulations on medaling in your first tournament. This does not make you a god at jiu-jitsu, however, so wipe off that smirk, rearrange your ego, and get back on the mats with an open mind and desire to learn.
Dear White Belts, if you're tapping higher belts, they're probably letting you. They're trying to help you get better, they're exploring their own positions and holes in their game, they're testing their escapes. Your technique is not superior to that a higher belt. Go train.
I’m going to give away $30,000 to 1 random person who retweets this tweet AND follows Twitter Philanthropist @Pulte and me!!! (If you don’t follow us, we can’t dm you the money) Will show proof!
Dear White Belts, never, never, NEVER ask your instructor when you're getting promoted or striped. Focus on learning, rather than promotions, and you'll be surprised at how much more you actually learn that way. Shocking!
Dear White Belts, personal hygiene is a MUST. Trim your finger- and toe-nails, shower after rolling, wear shoes to the bathroom, keep your shoes off the mats, wash your gear after one wear. Don't train if you have skin infections or have dripping snot. Be considerate!
Dear White Belts, if you're cranking a submission, and your opponent is not tapping, your submission isn't working and you should really just let it go. Unless you want to be tapped by your own "submission" #bjj#dearwhitebelts
