THE BOY THEY KEPT

He learned to read the silence behind I love you.
The pause. The glance. The way they said his name
like a question they were tired of asking.

Every morning, they handed him a lie:
You are our first, our favorite, our everything.
But he had counted the times they forgot to say goodnight.
He had felt the weight of being chosen last
for the games that mattered.

The other boy, the one with the easy laugh,
the one who never had to ask,
stood always at the edge of every family photo,
not quite in, not quite out.
Just there, waiting.

And so was he,
waiting for a love that didn't need convincing,
for a hug that didn't end too soon,
for the day they'd stop proving
they could live without him.
They kept him like a spare key,
useful, maybe, but never the one
they reached for first.

He never felt loved.
Just tolerated between good news,
Just wanted when the loneliness grew loud
and the better ones were busy being beautiful.

One night, he wrote in a notebook no one will find:
"They said I was preferred, but preferred to what?
To nothing? To the empty chair?
I was the favorite of their leftovers."

Then he closed the book,
turned off the light, and fell asleep,
While practicing how to take up less space.

Sometime last week, I came across a project that had everything you'd want to see on paper. A working product, a committed team, and a vision that actually made sense.

Yet, when I looked closer, something felt a bit off. Their X posts barely reached anyone, community engagement was quiet and the price action wasn't reflecting the effort they were putting in. It wasn't because the project lacked potential but because not enough people knew it existed.

A PLACE I VISIT

There is a place I visit at night,
when the weight of my eyes finally wins.
I never arrive with footsteps, never open a door,
yet somehow it always finds me.

I can never remember it clearly by morning,
as the memory slips away,
like water through open hands.
Faces blur, streets dissolve, voices fade
but the feeling remains.
Soft, warm, safe, safer than here.

It feels like a world,
where nothing is demanded of me.
No explaining, No pretending.
No heaviness stitched into my chest.
And every night, without meaning to,
I begin to wonder the same thing.

What if I stayed? What if one night
I stopped fighting the pull,
and let that hidden place keep me?
Would it feel like peace?
to disappear into comfort so complete
that waking up no longer mattered?

Or would this world mourn me?
while I wandered forever,
through a place I can barely remember
but somehow miss every single day?
