The high detail graphics part of gamedev is eating itself. Every year they use higher res textures, even more tech that simulates real light scattering/reflection/etc behavior, but it comes at a cost of every game relying on upscaling and framegen to be playable.
I might be reading this wrong, but isn’t this just another way to say “we want more platform exclusivity”
Years ago we despised the fact that publishers are making shittier versions of steam and bloating our systems with 20 different launchers.
Another day, another lawsuit against Valve. A new class action lawsuit filed in Washington court by two gamers, who claim that Microsoft is in cahoots with Valve to push anticompetitive practices.
"If Microsoft lowers the price of one of its own games for distribution on its own platform, it must also lower the price it offers that product for sale on Steam's platform."
"Microsoft and Valve are partners in a cartel over the market for PC game distribution, by choosing to collude rather than compete, Microsoft deprived consumers of the benefits of competition: lower prices, increased output, unique content selection, and higher quality. Consumers were overcharged on their PC game purchases as a result of these anticompetitive practices." Via Aftermath.
@cuppacaffeine1@Zeeprooo The whole shtick of these is that windows was optimized (allegedly) to run on them, but they didn’t even include an OEM key or pre-activate them.
@sleepy_roobs@luvlickysgf No wonder that the creators of original left the project at an early stage. I wouldn’t want to be associated with this misinterpretation of the story as well.
Honestly hoping that Chinese manufacturers will master GPU production and provide us with affordable cards, because this “future” looks like a shittier version of M-series chips for vibe-coding. I’d rather board manufacturers figure out how to use HBM memory on consumer hardware
@coconut_jpgg Replies don’t understand that this is a random example and that TF2 community has a lot of creators who have spoken out about issues with the game.
Nvidia’s new ARM-based SOC is rumoured to feature:
- Up to 20 CPU cores
- Up to 6144 Blackwell CUDA cores
- Use a TSMC 3nm process
- Up to 128GB unified memory
This has the potential to be an M5 Max competitor for AI-developers.
It’s so funny when they do side-to-sides and the RTX ON version turns everything into a mirror, since otherwise you’d have a hard time spotting a difference

The spy action game 007 First Light prepares to implement path tracing technology that will drastically change its visual fidelity. Shifting all lighting calculations to physically correct algorithms will become a major challenge for all graphics systems.
Activation of the new feature will in our opinion reduce performance by 300% and lead to a frame rate drop to 28-30 on a powerful RTX 5090 in 4K. The stress on hardware will be extreme for most available graphics cards.
To maintain a comfortable frame rate in the future PC owners will need to utilize upscaling profiles. DLSS or FSR3 technologies will be the only way to preserve a playable frame rate after the release of the planned update.

Just fuck off. What, your next line of gpus will be 5% game-capable, 40% upscale powered, 10% RTX enabled and 45% NN enabled?
Nobody needs your overpriced compute modules skinwalking as gaming GPUs
Or is it some cloud gaming bullshit? First ever dud gpu that relies on cloud?
@PSYCHSOMATIC@horror_hearted Hope it gets better for you.
I just find it so odd. Seeing people say “I can relate to Homelander” or “I can relate to Stormfront/Soldierboy” (which is a 10x worse example) doesn’t paint a pretty picture even if you relate to the bits and pieces of their humane selves
@Emilk010 Yeah it looks kind of goofy, but depending on your build you can do different stuff outside of dodge attack spam. Though, the game’s strongest suite are its quests and characters.
@roger_creus_art The only group of people who should never complain about asset size tbh.
Plus it’s HDR, probably 4k or higher, a lot of pixel data to store for a spherical projection.

@Wario64 Yeah, the exclusivity deals they took kinda killed off a huge chunk of potential player base. Not releasing on GoG and Steam hurt them way more than not having a TV series.
