An old man in our neighborhood died today. He was hospitalized with chest pain three days ago, underwent angioplasty, but passed away in the ICU. His wife had died during the COVID wave, and he had been living alone since then.
His only son lives in Australia and couldn’t come to see his father. Now, I’m not saying that the son is uncaring or abandoned his parents. I don’t know him. Maybe he is really a nice man. The elderly couple used to visit him every year and spend a few months with him. But maybe once you build a life outside, you can’t really come back. Life, distance, responsibilities, things become complicated.
The son hadn’t come to India in nearly 10 years. He couldn’t come for his mother’s last rites due to COVID travel restrictions, and I don’t even know if he’ll be able to come now or will have to arrange his father’s last rites from there itself.
This has stayed with me all day. To think of an old man spending his final years largely alone, losing his partner, and then leaving this world without his son by his side. Even as an unrelated observer, the whole thing feels unbearably sad.
Saw an ad on a road divider and got curious, so I checked them out.

Nice to see youngsters trying to become job creators rather than job seekers.
Every such effort adds to the city’s growing startup spirit.
BJP came to power in Odisha waving the banner of “Odia Asmita,” accusing BJD of serving Tamil interests and enriching Tamil companies. Yet today, the same BJP brazenly sacrifices our local vendors to benefit Gujarati firms.
Earlier, lab equipment tenders were floated at the college level, giving local suppliers a fair chance. Now, from the smallest to the biggest contracts, this government seems keen on handing everything to Gujarati companies.
And sadly, all this is being shamelessly done in the name of “protecting Odisha’s interest” and “upholding Odia pride.”

Appeal Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri @MohanMOdisha ji take up the issue of the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Delimitation Bill, 2026 strongly as it will take the voice of #Odisha and redistribute in other states. This will be a huge blow to the aspirations of 4.5 Cr Odias and a grave injustice to our future generation.
The Bill seeks increase the strength of the Lok Sabha from 543 to 850 members. Currently, Odisha has 21 MPs, about 3.9% of the total. If the amendment passes, Odisha’s representation will rise to 29, but its proportion will fall to 3.4%. Odisha, which has been a frontrunner in moderating population growth and nurturing human capital, faces a potential 15% loss in political representation nationally.
We welcome the Women’s Reservation Bill. Biju Babu was a strong votary of women’s empowerment, pioneering reservation in legislative bodies and entrusting power to women. @bjd_odisha has always championed women’s representation, ensuring their presence in Parliament and State Assemblies. Odisha implemented 50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions, and we actively support national legislation for women’s empowerment.
We will welcome the Delimitation Bill only if Odisha’s political right remains intact. This is not just an issue of numbers. The Bill hits directly at the spirit of Cooperative Federalism enshrined in the Constitution. Any reduction in political rights will undermine the aspirations of Odisha and its people.
Request Hon’ble Chief Minister to convene a special session of Assembly in the next 48 hours to pass a resolution that not even 0.001% of political rights of Odisha be allowed to be taken away by other states. Appeal you as an Odia to take up the issue strongly and Biju Janata Dal will stand with you on this as it affects the fate and future of our beloved state and motherland.

(IIT-JEE Rank 1, Neuroscientist & Researcher from India)
Exploring how the brain turns signals into behavior from smell to decision-making.
> Topped IIT-JEE in 2000 and joined IIT Kanpur
> Graduated with a BTech degree in Computer Science, with a growing interest in biology
> Pursued a PhD in Bioinformatics & Systems Biology at University of California San Diego
> Where he Worked in cognitive neuroscience
> Then he moved to National Institutes of Health for postdoctoral research in electrophysiology
> After Postdoc he returned to India and Joined IIT Kanpur as a faculty member in 2014
Today, he is working at the intersection of neuroscience, behavior, and computation
> Studies how neural circuits encode behaviors like attraction and repulsion
> Uses insect olfactory systems to understand how brains process smells
> Examines how mosquitoes respond to human odors vs repellents
> Research which will help to uncover fundamental working principles of brain
Beyond core research, he is also building solutions for real-world impact
> Developed TreadWill, a digital cognitive behavioral therapy tool for depression
> Working on scalable mental health interventions using technology
His work bridges computer science, biology, and neuroscience, decoding how simple neural signals give rise to complex behavior.
@nihar_nayak2@aaibpiairport@aaibpiairport is one of the worst airports. Terminal2 looks like railway station in terms of cleanliness & toilets. Forget mosquitoes, I wn't be surprised even if snakes r found at @aaibpiairport. And guess what AAI & govt were planning, if rumors r true? Changing it's name..!!

Odisha is no stranger to India’s tourism circuit.
From the timeless Konark & Jagannath Temples, to the sands of Puri Beach and the vastness of Chilika Lake.
But it seems that if you venture deeper into the state you discover landscapes that are every bit as spectacular.
Duduma Falls in Koraput district where the Machkund River plunges dramatically off a rocky cliff is one such marvel.
It’s a reminder that India’s beauty is inexhaustible. Just when you think you’ve seen it all… another wonder appears.
