Days after DMK MLA Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin spoke about eradicating Sanathana Hindu Dharma on the floor of the legislative assembly, TVK MLA Thiru VMS Mustafa came in support of Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks. Not only is this very unfortunate but also it shows the level of hatred they harbour in their minds towards an eternal Dharma that helps us to lead a meaningful life!
DMK & TVK, in their very short history, have proven to the people that they are two sides of the same coin. DMK has forgotten what their constant attack on Sanathana Hindu Dharma has brought them to. TVK will also soon remember.
If either DMK or TVK had the courage of conviction, they should have openly declared during their election campaigns that targeting Sanathana Hindu Dharma would be central to their politics. Instead, they hid behind secularism & theatrics, only to reveal their true intentions after seeking votes from the very people whose faith they now insult with arrogance and impunity.
Please be reminded, Sanathana Hindu Dharma is not your punching bag! I sincerely hope their remarks will not go unpunished by our people.
#Kashmiriyat — The serpent wrapped in a shawl, the perfume sprayed upon a massacre, the tune hummed by wolves to lull sheep before the slaughter.
Pranam Nishat Khan ji,
You say you “witnessed” Kashmiriyat in 1989 and 2010?
Then you, sir, have truly mastered the art of sightseeing while blindfolded and facing backwards.
Because 1989 was not the year of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. It was the year of Raliv, Galiv, Tsaliv—convert, die, or flee.
It was the year when Kashmir bled Sanskrit, when Shiva was silenced, and when Hindus were marked not by caste but by the crosshairs.
But let us now tear open the carefully sewn layers of your post with the scalpel of scholarship. Let us dissect this taxidermized idea called Kashmiriyat—a word which, as T.N. Madan, India's pioneering anthropologist and Kashmiri Pandit, declared:
“Kashmiriyat is not a Kashmiri word. It may not therefore be claimed to be a native category of perception. It is an artificially produced clone of Punjabiyat and a recent coinage—not earlier than the 1980s.”
An artificial clone—not a blossom of tradition, but a linguistic prosthetic grafted on by cultural orthopedists attempting to reanimate a fractured identity. It is no more Kashmiri than a plastic flower is botanical.
Even Mohammad Ishaq Khan, a Kashmiri historian of repute, recalled the precise moment he first heard the term—not from a manuscript, not from an ancient hymn, but from a drawing-room conversation post-1975, amidst despair and confusion. He remembers Ibn Mahjoor—son of the so-called “national poet” G.A. Mahjoor—saying:
“Now we cannot go to Pakistan. We cannot become independent, as Sheikh Abdullah has already sold us. There is only one option now: we must support a regional party… that would be Kashmiriyat.”
That wasn’t culture. That was a funeral oration for failed secession, a lament disguised as a philosophy. Kashmiriyat was not born in a temple or a dargah—it was conceived in political panic and born in the arms of disappointment.
Even the Srinagar Times, that cradle of the counterfeit, only cautiously uttered the term in 1975, in an editorial titled “Srinagar ke Akhbaar aur Urdu Zabaan”, saying:
“It would not be very surprising if Kashmiriyat appears in their journalistic language.”
Not as philosophy. Not as spiritual universalism. But as a linguistic accent. Imagine calling a dialect a civilization. That is the degree of delusion one must embrace to equate Kashmiriyat with Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdullah—long perceived as Kashmir’s enigmatic messiah—was engaged in a pageant of political necromancy, reviving tombs and mouthing slogans like “Yeh mulk hamara hai, is ka faisla hum karenge” (This nation is ours, and we will decide its future). In 1977, he even led a government-funded pilgrimage to the grave of Yousuf Shah Chak, the last king of independent Kashmir, erecting commemorative stones and organizing a cultural program—a coronation of himself as the spiritual heir to a lost sultanate.
Was this secularism? Or a photo-op with the ghost of Islamic sovereignty?
Even the J&K Cultural Academy, under his regime, wasn’t promoting harmony but staging cultural taxidermy, dressing up Sheikh Nooruddin (Nund Rishi) and Lal Ded as saints of secularism. These two medieval mystics—deeply spiritual, complex, rooted in bhakti and Sufism—were turned into props in a state-sponsored puppet show. Neither of them uttered the term Kashmiriyat—because it did not exist. It was later smuggled into their legacy like a forged will into a dead man’s pocket.
And what of Farooq Abdullah, the heir of this synthetic ideology? In 1983, he resurrected the term like a magician pulling a stuffed pigeon from a hat. He partnered with Mirwaiz Maulana Farooq, a known separatist, and fought the assembly election on a full-throated Muslim card, while Indira Gandhi's Congress-I used a Hindu card in Jammu.
Kashmiriyat, in that theatre, was not harmony—it was costume.
A burqa stitched from newspaper slogans. A PR stunt to veil theocratic appetites.
Then came 1989—the year your memory claims “witnessed secularism.”
Well, let me remind you what else it witnessed:
a) Temples desecrated
b) Women raped
c) Hindus hunted
d) Homes looted
e) Many more
And most famously, letters from the Kashmir Liberation Front threatening the Pandits with words that chilled the marrow:
“The minorities should realize that this (supporting separatism) is the only way of preserving their own existence and culture.”
— Kashmir Times, 25 November 1989
A threat dressed as a proposal. A dagger sheathed in velvet. And you call this Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam?
Let me explain what that actually means:
From the Mahā-Upanishad:
“Ayam bandhur ayam neti ganana laghuchetasām;
Udāracaritānām tu vasudhaiva kutumbakam.”
(This is mine, that is a stranger—this is the calculation of narrow minds. For the noble-hearted, the world is one family.)
This ideal emerged from the womb of Sanātana Dharma, at a time when the mind was expansive, not doctrinal. It came before Islam, before the idea that the world must be divided between believers and Kafirs, between dar-ul-Islam and dar-ul-harb, before women were required to veil and kafirs to kneel and pay Jaziya while taking spit.
You cannot invoke Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam while harboring ideologies that demand exclusion, submission, and annihilation. That is not family. That is the mafia model of multiculturalism: You’re safe if you obey, but don’t forget who runs the house.
And let’s not forget how the Indian state, in the 1990s, attempted to repackage Kashmiriyat as the antidote to terrorism. M.J. Akbar—the Nehruvian voice in tailored suits—penned “Kashmir: Behind the Vale” and polished the turd of communalism with the toothpaste of secularism, all to reassure Delhi that the bleeding valley was still within the fold.
But truth, Shriman Khan, is not a TED Talk. It doesn’t wear make-up.
The reality is this:
Kashmiriyat, as it played out in politics of Islam, in press, in pogroms, is not a sibling of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. It is its usurper.
A liar dressed as a saint.
A soft-focus fatwa.
A slogan that promised brotherhood, while silently digging the graves of its brothers.
So please shut up.
Calling Kashmiriyat secular is like calling a crocodile a vegetarian because it once swallowed a sage.
This tweet created a lot of burn for all sorts of regional bigots, Marxists & pseudo atheist anti Hindu haters from a region.
They all declared that Onam is not Vamana Jayanti. But they are wrong.
For once in his life, Kejriwal is right.
Onam is indeed Vama Jayanti. Thread(1)
