But, what do we do with the competition that is, while cultivating this mindset?

Web3 drew me in with excitement— the tech aura that came with saying "GM GM" and utter joy from seeing your first pay from just helping projects get publicity. But there was some part of me that wanted to connect it to meaningful causes that would affect my community positively.
Because, I mean, it's technology and technology has that playing field-leveling power.
It was that part of me that drove me to research.
