Funding & personnel cuts have ground essential reading and education research to a halt and upended a small division of the US Department of Education called the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). Contact your state legislator now! #StandUpforReadingResearch#SaveIES
@Eduventuring04 @carriewoodwpg @MmeLockhartLDSB @smorrisey Agree! Districts need to provide their teachers with solid curriculum guidelines, assessment procedures, coaching supports, schedules, etc so that they can in turn focus on making the types of adjustments needed to support their students.
@Eduventuring04 @carriewoodwpg @MmeLockhartLDSB @smorrisey If you don’t mind me asking, what was your district’s response? Did they support your work systematically or was it treated more as personal work that they left up to you?
@Eduventuring04 @carriewoodwpg @MmeLockhartLDSB @smorrisey Yes, curriculum & instructional materials are an important facet of the systems level work, but there are many other aspects that need attention too. Admin also need support in moving toward the SoR!
@Eduventuring04 @carriewoodwpg @MmeLockhartLDSB @smorrisey Having to do that level of work individually seems untenable… we can’t expect teachers to do this on their own. Not to mention, you’re experienced & knowledgeable… new teachers will have too much on their plates to take this on.
@Eduventuring04 @carriewoodwpg @MmeLockhartLDSB @smorrisey Yes, our state MTSS initiative works w/ district teams to focus on systems change work (guidelines, scheduling, data review mtgs, etc). We recently looked at other state initiatives & it doesn’t seem many include that type of work & districts aren’t doing it themselves.
@Eduventuring04 @carriewoodwpg @MmeLockhartLDSB @smorrisey Does your district have a leadership team that establishes curriculum guidelines? Packaged programs are tools, none are perfect, & often need supplements or clarifications to fit in the overall curriculum. You’ve done the work… is there a channel to share that work districtwide?

The use of the death penalty in the United States is one of the ugliest stains on our broken criminal justice system.
It is disproportionately imposed against poor people and people of color.
We must abolish it once and for all.
