As a beginner in tech, chasing money and opportunities before building real skills is why youโre stuck.
Yes, I said it. And before you tell me โbut I need to get hired,โ let me explain why youโre thinking about this backwards.
While youโre obsessing over certifications and LinkedIn engagement, someone else just built a project that solved a real problem. They didnโt wait for permission. They didnโt wait for the perfect course.
Hereโs what nobody talks about: ๐ ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ๐, ๐ฒ๐ป๐ด๐ฎ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐๐. Theyโre the score on the board. You donโt improve your score by staring at it. You improve it by playing the game better.
The game is value creation. Everything else follows.
Which certification should I get?
โ What salary should I negotiate?
โ How do I get more LinkedIn engagement?
โ When will the job offers come?
These arenโt bad questions. Theyโre just backward. Youโre asking about outcomes before building the input.
Can I clean messy data and make it usable?
โ Can I build a dashboard that answers real business questions?
โ Can I automate a process that saves someone 5 hours a week?
โ Can I find insights that lead to better decisions?
Thatโs value. Thatโs what gets you hired, paid, and noticed.
Hereโs the truth: Companies donโt hire you for your degree or certifications. They donโt hire you for your LinkedIn followers.
Recruiters donโt engage because of your bio. They engage because you demonstrate competence. Money doesnโt come from knowing Python. It comes from using Python to deliver results.
You donโt have years of experience. You donโt have a fancy resume. You donโt have a big network. So what do you have?
Your ability to learn, build, and deliver value. Thatโs the only currency that matters when youโre starting.
Everyone starts at zero. Some people stay focused on the scoreboard (followers, likes, job posts). Others focus on the game (projects, skills, problems solved). Guess which group gets hired first?
Stop asking โHow do I get hired?โ Start asking โHow do I become someone worth hiring?โ
Stop chasing engagement. Start building things worth engaging with.
Stop focusing on outcomes (money, opportunities). Start focusing on inputs (skills, projects, value).
The opportunities come to people who are obviously valuable. Not to people asking.
Iโve seen this play out hundreds of times: Person A spends 6 months perfecting their resume and applying to 200 jobs. Person B spends 6 months building 3 solid projects and sharing what they learned. Person B gets hired first. Every time.
Why? Because Person B proved they can do the work. Person A just claimed they could.
Build real projects. Real things that solve real problems.
Share what you learn publicly. Show your process, not just results.
Solve actual problems, even small ones. Automate something. Clean a dataset. Answer a question with data.
Help others who are one step behind you.
Thatโs value. Thatโs what makes you hireable. Thatโs what opens doors.
You canโt negotiate a salary you havenโt earned the skills for. You canโt get opportunities youโre not ready to execute. You canโt get engagement on content that doesnโt demonstrate value.
Focus on becoming undeniably competent at something useful. The money will follow. The opportunities will follow. The recognition will follow.
Stop chasing outcomes. Start building value. Everything else is a byproduct.
Fight me in the comments.
