Day 5: No Gree for Rejection
In June 2011, I applied online for the Shell Graduate Program and was optimistic about my chances. I had a strong profile and knew this was a company I could succeed with. After three weeks, I got a reply from them: “Thank you for applying. After a careful review of…” I know how it ends; I have seen it before. Ok, so this door is closed, but guess what? There were other doors I could still knock on, so I kept knocking. I would eventually apply to around 700 jobs before I got into – wait for it – Shell. How? Three months after my initial rejection, I was at a conference filled with recruiters from the oil majors (including Shell) and they couldn’t believe I got rejected by the online portal. The rest is history. I no gree for rejection; you must not gree too.
Let’s be real, when you are rejected for a role, it punctures your ego a little bit. And if rejection keeps punching you left and right, you can feel deflated. I know the feeling too well. But here's something I learned along the way – each 'no' is not a barricade, but a step closer to victory. Let each 'no' propel you forward. Turn each rejection into a rallying cry. Let the chorus of 'no's fuel your ascent. Remember, the greatest victories are born from the ashes of setbacks.
Rejection is painful but it is not a reflection of your worth or potential. It is, instead, an inherent part of the journey towards success. Each rejection tests your resolve, strengthens your character, and teaches you invaluable lessons. I encourage you to view each rejection not as a defeat, but as a moment of learning and growth.
The path to success is rarely a straight line. It's filled with twists, turns, and obstacles. But it's these very challenges that make the journey worthwhile and the success even sweeter. Your current experiences are shaping you into a stronger, more resilient person, ready to seize the right opportunity when it comes along. This battle we fight is not won by the swift nor the strong, but by those who keep pushing when every sign tells them to stop. It's a war against the odds, a relentless march in the face of adversity.
Keep striving, keep learning, and most importantly, keep believing in yourself. Your perseverance will pay off, and the right doors will open at the right time. You no go carry last. This is a journey of persistence and your “yes” will be a testament to your unyielding spirit. The world will watch in awe as you seize your destiny, not because it was handed to you, but because you fought for it.
Our mantra is simple yet profound: Reject rejection, embrace resilience, and claim your victory.
No gree for rejection.
