HELP. Writing a story where someone tells me a story (using double quotes). Then story teller is quoting other people (using single quotes). Do I still start a new line everytime a new person speaks? Any suggestions?

I lost a dear friend yesterday. She had an imaginary cat named PITA (Pain in the a**). I would sometimes ask her how her cat was doing.
Susan Tuttle was such a wonderful writer. Being in a critique group, for more than a decade, with her allowed me to hear some amazing writing.
