🎂 BRAVE-ish is THREE today! 🎉 Three years ago today, BRAVE-ish: One Breakup, Six Continents, and Feeling Fearless After Fifty arrived in the world. And honestly, it feels impossible to celebrate this birthday without thinking about how many people helped bring this book to life.
I’m incredibly grateful to my agent Chip MacGregor, Debbie Englander and everyone at Post Hill Press, my developmental editor Ann Campbell and all the editors, publicists and PR people who helped shape, polish, promote and share this book.
I’m grateful for the friends who took countless calls while I was writing and editing, listened to me talk through the 50 Before 50 project, encouraged me to keep going and celebrated the adventures along the way.
And I’m grateful for every destination, tourism board, travel company, TV show, podcast host, journalist, editor, interviewer, bookseller, event organizer and reader who has given BRAVE-ish a place in their world.
Three years, 12 book awards, countless adventures and SO many wonderful people later, I’m still amazed by the support this book has received. Truly, it has been unbelievable. ❤️
Writing BRAVE-ish changed my life. But the greatest gift has been everything that happened because of it — the conversations, connections, opportunities, adventures and reminders that being brave doesn’t mean being fearless. Sometimes it means taking the next step, saying YES to something new and making your own map.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. I could never have imagined where this book would take me — or how many wonderful people I would meet along the way.
Happy 3rd birthday, BRAVE-ish! 🥂🗺️❤️
Here’s to the next chapter… and the next YES.

Be Persistent and Find Your Niche
Finding the specific audience interested in your book can be challenging, but colleges make this easier by organizing students into majors, departments, and clubs. Identify the group that best aligns with your message. Use platforms like LinkedIn as well as university websites to locate the right contacts

As a book publicist deeply involved in the world of storytelling, some of my clients seek out ghostwriters to pen their books. Working with a ghostwriter can save you valuable time and energy and give your book a professional edge. But ghostwriters can be hard to vet, and their referrals tend to be word-of-mouth. That's why I compiled this list of writers I've actually worked with. People I would hire myself. @abookpublcist
I’m delighted to share my author Q&A over at Book Notions, talking about how I felt about writing my memoir CAMOUFLAGE, what I hope readers take away from my book, and how proud I am of my collection of bylines. I hope you’ll give it a read!

This poem, my first ever published poem, went up 2 yrs ago.
I wrote it in 2009.
The marriage didn't end until 2013.
That's too long to be that unhappy.

We’re officially into Q2—and this is where a lot of authors drift.
Are you growing visibility or just staying busy? Reaching new readers or the same ones?
If Q1 didn’t move the needle, reset. What’s one thing not working right now?

If you tell me you care about healthcare, then it probably means you care about cool new drugs, or apps, or M&A.
You really should care about the last mile of healthcare.
That's where we really need innovation.
