An open data citizen science app, powered by @MorganStanley. Take a stand against plastic pollution by logging litter anywhere in the world. @JambeckResearch
This month’s #1 tracked item was plastic fragments. MDT Users tracked 6K pieces around the world in 30 days. Every plastic piece matters; fragments are officially everywhere on the earth. Reduce your use and get tracking on our app! 🤳
In the last 6 months, MDT users have logged over 3,700 pieces of fishing gear.
It’s estimated that between 500,000 and 1 million tons of fishing gear are abandoned in the ocean each year.
Using Marine Debris Tracker can bring more awareness to this issue! Let’s go!
The newest version of the app is out now! Here's what's new:

Happy Earth Day! There are so many ways to lower our environmental impact. Today, whether you are taking a nature walk, participating in a community cleanup, or organizing a city-wide environmental event, why not track the litter you find along the way?

Did you know that >500 billion plastic bottles are used every year?
Many single-use plastics end up in our oceans, forests, and neighborhoods. In fact, plastic bottles are always among the top five litter items tracked in @DebrisTracker#refuse#reduce#reuse ♻️🌎
The weather is getting warmer: time to start tracking! Download our app today to contribute to our growing citizen science movement. Your data is important! #CitizenScience
Watch PBS SciGirls episode 705 “River Rescues” to see Debris Tracker in action! These four girls took initiative in their community to collect litter data and host their own river clean up. What a beautiful example of citizen science!

We’re using our citizen science data talks to nurture students’ data literacy and introduce them to citizen science. Here is one of our campers calling us out for not citing our sources for the @DebrisTracker Data Talk.

Our campers addressed trash pollution at their school with @DebrisTracker. They moved through phases of data collection, data analysis, and data-informed advocacy to ultimately tell the story of the problem and solution they identified.
Last week, Debris Tracker director Kathryn had the opportunity to tag along with @pwssf on a truly wild cleanup in Alaska’s beautiful Prince William Sound.
