While tending to the pollinator garden, Emily Roth (@TreesAtlanta) spotted this gorgeous beautyberry shrub with fruits in different ripening stages. Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana), native to Georgia, has vibrant fruits that will ripen through November! 🌱
Trees Atlanta staff member Emily Roth found this brown snake at EDG! 🐍 Emily found this snake (Storeria dekayi) while weeding the pollinator garden, which was planted last October. These small snakes burrow in the ground in search of food, typically slugs.
For Earth Day, Friends School students removed ivy, created branch structures, and removed plastic trash from the creek. Earth Day represents our commitment to nature & dedication to environmental education, but every day we try to make the Earth a cleaner and greener place! 🌎🌱
The Scientific Foundations of Health course at GT allows students to spend their day removing invasive plants like English ivy and privet and constructing and installing a bench for academic credit!
This year's Park Pride’s Annual Inspiration Awards honored Camilla Warren for her continuous work with the Greenway and support of the environment! 🎉Camilla has been EDG's EPA Project Officer since EDG received an EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant in 2015-17.

A flowering blueberry bush earlier this month, thriving even after a cold weekend. It's a welcome sign that summer is on its way - hopefully we see some fruit in the coming months! 🫐🌱
Blueberries are native and are the number one fruit produced in GA (over the peach!)
Check out the Red-shouldered Hawk spotted at the Greenway! Also known as Buteo lineatus, this bird is a forest raptor and is most commonly found in the southeastern states. The biggest threat to red-shouldered hawks is habitat clearance! #RedShoulderedHawk
The Rising Sun Redbud (Cercis canadensis) is budding and is on its way to bloom. Eventually, these vivid pink flowers will turn to large green, gold, and peach-colored leaves in the summer. Visit the Greenway to keep up with its growth! #RisingSunRedbud
Dandelions have been emerging along with the warmer weather - another sign that spring is on its way! Its bright yellow flower head is actually made up of tiny florets, which are all individual flowers! Below are some dandelions spotted at the Greenway - be sure to stop by!🌱
Even during the cold weather, plants at the Greenway are thriving! These ferns are pictured on part of the creek bank where volunteers Cindy Lutenbacher and Megan Sinnott recently removed invasive plants. The appearance of daffodil leaves is a sign that spring is near!🌱🌿☀️
Ivy can look nice, but it can also cause some serious harm to nature within the Greenway! Below is an "after" shot of a tree on EDG's property near North Carter Road once ivy was removed. EDG is committed to removing invasive vegetation and preserving our native biodiversity.
As this year comes to a close, please consider making a gift to East Decatur Greenway. Help support a thriving greenspace and environmental education for the local community! https://t.co/vIdcJeM0Xo
Happy #ArborDay!🌳🌲🌴🌱🌿🍃
Today is a day dedicated to trees and nature. Have your own Arbor Day celebration by planting trees, honoring community members that contribute to the environment and trees, taking care of your trees, or getting outdoors
Next month between Feb. 12-15 is the Great Backyard Bird Count! Count as many birds as you can for at least 15 minutes and report online to Merlin or eBird. Visit https://t.co/Ok9MyFIMev for more information, and visit EDG to see if you can spot these birds!🐦🪶🌳
