@globeandmail “Some months ago” -this story was first in the media in 2023. As well as a mental illness, he also has severe scoliosis and chronic kidney disease - both those conditions could possibly meet Track 2 criteria. And the DMS lists over 200 mental illnesses - which does Skully have?
@OhNo_Canada@RobynUrback In Canada a public Death Certificate by law cannot state death was facilitated by MAiD or even mention MAiD, just the underlying natural cause. Strictly confidential forms that do inform the death was “by” MAiD must also be completed & filed immediately after a MAiD procedure.
@BCANDS1 Whatever the decision is, it must prompt the Canadian government to ensure going forward that organizations/ charities like the MAiD CAMAP know that attached to accepting gov’t $, they are to provide detailed reports to the gov’t and fulfill any other requests the gov’t may make.
@canadanurses, @CFPC_e are you still 100% satisfied that Nurse Practitioners & Family Physicians who have taken CAMAP’s course module for assessing mental illnesses have the knowledge required to fully assess any one of the mental illnesses included in the DMS-5 and the ICD-11?
@rljcoelho When there’s no substantial curriculum with explicit outcomes how are those who participated in the CAMAP training going to prove they are qualified to properly assess a mental illness request for MAiD when there are over 450 distinct definitions of mental disorders in the DSM?
@Sarah_Colero@rljcoelho Apparently - as usual - Health Canada neglected to stipulate what the expectations were in return for providing funds: when & in what form specific detailed reports & other reporting requests were to be forwarded and the actionable consequences when there is non-compliance.
Story in the New York Times: Tennessee calls off execution after staff can’t find prisoner’s vein.
Have we ever heard anything about a MAiD procedure not proceeding because a vein couldn’t be found ?
Or does MAiD training include “finding and using a viable vein”?

@historykev@dignityindying Dying With Dignity Canada has fundraising campaigns to fund unending efforts to grow Canada’s slippery slope. That same $ could instead focus on training healthcare workers across the board, provide state of the art machinery in hospitals & clinics & totally cut waiting times.
@DrKindyMLA You left out what it’s like being a patient in Burnaby General - particularly in the last 5 years. For instance, they’ve a unique way to deal with more patients than beds - they cram more beds in each room. But have they increased the staff, medical and non-medical? Doubt it.
@CityNewsVAN No, it isn’t two projects - it’s five healthcare projects. And really, in what world is the government going to put out contract requests in the future that come in lower than the contracts they just cancelled? Why is BC so tight-fisted when it comes to health?
Testified at AMAD alongside psychiatric experts, disability experts, Indigenous leaders, and a person with lived experience. Two Chairs of Psychiatry testified as well.
Now 13 Canadian psychiatry chairs are calling for an indefinite halt to MAID for mental illness—citing no reliable way to accurately determine irremediability or distinguish suicidality from a "reasoned" MAID request.
This is evidence-based medicine raising yet another serious red flag about Canada’s MAID regime.

@NewsroomGC Respectfully this is a wonderful opportunity to fund classes to teach Canadian seniors the North American Phonetic Alphabet (NAPA). Seniors will then be equipped & encouraged to teach the NAPA so others can understand/pronounce & enjoy the new Indigenous names proliferating.
@mario_canseco@UBC Totally ignored: the current Skytrain route plan completely avoids West 10th businesses from Discovery to Blanca & all stops along UBC Blvd until The Nest. Who will this route benefit? Only those living in the Jericho Lands dense housing anticipated to be completed by 2060!
