Had someone stop me today to say he lost his brother to alcoholism a month and a half ago. Somehow he found my column from 7 years about the loss of my brother and said it gave him some solace. That was part of the intent when I wrote it.
I’m both glad…and sad that it’s still relevant.

💰 Inflation is already costing New Jersey families enough. A cost-of-living raise shouldn't mean a higher tax burden.
That's why I introduced S-2370 to adjust income tax brackets for inflation and help New Jerseyans keep more of their hard-earned money!
.@SenCorrado has been sounding the alarm on NJ’s new independent contractor rules and its impact on youth sports referees and umpires.
She has also introduced bipartisan legislation, S-4045, to protect officials’ independent contractor status.
Two hours straight yesterday of Democrats and Republicans alike on New Jersey’s Senate Judiciary Committee saying their phones are ringing off the hook, lawyers and accountants can’t make any sense of the Labor Department’s new independent-contractor rule, concerns with every conceivable kind of work from babysitters and golf caddies to financial advisers and Netflix, all kinds of ideas thrown out from drafting a “Big Beautiful Bill” of industry carveouts to revisiting the state’s use of the ABC Test itself because nobody is actually sure whether about 1.7 million people in the state are, or are not, now in danger of losing our incomes and careers…
Zero coverage in New Jersey’s news media
As we scratch our collective heads. The people of New Jersey need to rise up and join us. This cutting slack for Democrats running on (laughable) affordability agendas is special. NOTHING, they do will reduce costs appreciably. And almost all of it can be logically connected to Increasing our costs.
Looks like Matawan Council President Deana Gunn is following the poor example set by her neighbor and friend, Aberdeen Mayor Greg Cannon, by perpetuating lies about the ADP.
Luckily for Matawan residents, including one in particular, common sense prevailed.
Check it out! 👀

Because he has not lost his mind, Rees-Mogg assumed that he could use shorthand to reference the near-universally shared notion that being ruled by the Nazis was a bad thing. Alas, with Carlson he was apparently wrong. https://t.co/GSmrzlZb80
Look at how many professions (which seem to include freelance writers and editors like me) the Senate Labor Committee Chairman now wants to protect from the ABC Test rule
After NJDOL and Governor Sherrill just told us all that nothing changed and we don't have to worry
It is ridiculous and unfair that individual professions keep getting special treatment. Fix these laws for us all!

If you run a company, you now have a fiduciary/legal responsibility to make sure your healthcare benefits actually benefit your employees.
If not , you are legally liable.
You have to learn how it all works. You can’t ask a broker or consultant to figure it out for you. The responsibility stays with you and never goes to them. Even if they lie, steal and cheat you.
It’s all on you.
The Commerce Committee held a hearing on why businesses are leaving NJ. I asked the questions. The Chairman cut me off 7 times.
Nobody in that room was willing to tell the truth, so I did.

Tens of millions in questionable and wasteful spending - and yet, Trenton Democrats demand billions more from New Jersey taxpayers.
The State Auditor’s latest Newark audit exposes millions spent on a so-called “museum” that remains fenced off and unfinished, unnecessary trips, a gym inside an administrative building, and excessive health care costs. This follows earlier findings of waste on exotic trips, balloons, parties, and more.
Thanks to our Senate Republican Budget Officer Declan O’Scanlon for demanding accountability. Taxpayers cannot keep bankrolling a broken system while millions are squandered and the same failures keep repeating.
Enough is enough. Recover taxpayers’ money. Fix the school funding formula.

Glad @nypost is covering this story, first brought to my attention by @dawnfantasia. Newark Schools reportedly spent $566K on a gym and trainer used by just 7 people, money that could have saved programs and jobs in struggling NJ schools.
My suggestions:
1. @NewJerseyOAG: Before filing another lawsuit against Washington, investigate how NJ taxpayer dollars are being spent right here at home. Taxpayers deserve answers.
2. Senate & Assembly Budget Committees: There should be oversight hearings to explain how this happened while the NJ state budget cut funding to other NJ schools.

I know that he’s figured out a way to reduce drug costs dramatically. I’ve seen it first hand. He’ll present a fresh perspective on the mess that is NJ’s disaster of a public health insurance system. To refuse to listen to all perspectives is to…continue to do what we’ve always done…that obviously isn’t working.
Thanks for the offer, @mcuban! I appreciate your innovative work in this space as we bring all ideas to the table.
No more kicking the can down the road in New Jersey. I want accountability and results.
We’d love to have you on Team Jersey as we tackle this challenge. Let’s talk – we'll reach out today!
On this week’s podcast episode of Live From NJ With Vicky & Gerry, we discuss Lt. Governor Dale Caldwell’s resignation and what that means for the state.

Save this one. Every time a NJ jobs number lands, the explanation is national headwinds. Three other states caught the same headwinds and somehow ended the year up. At some point the common factor in New Jersey's results is New Jersey.
Great night with Senator @declanoscanlon at Love Thy Neighbor’s Sunset Beach Dinner. The event celebrated the organization’s continued work supporting individuals and families in need across Monmouth County.
