Taggespiegel corroborates a few episodes I know a lot about, from my time as a diplomat in Ukraine.
First, that Putin's Ukrainian Godfather Medvedchuk was feeding Putin false polling that said Putin had a 46% approval rating in Ukraine. When Medvedchuk's pollster was arrested in Ukraine in March 2022 he told the arresting officers. "I'm innocent. Was feeding Putin Disinfolklore masquerading as scientific polling."
Those of us who understand how governance works in Ruschia understood: this was the problem. Ruschia had oodles of agents across Ukraine who themselves knew Putin was not popular. I myself sat in oodles of meetings with Ruschist diplomats while Ukrainian elected officials shot at them and Ruschia with both barrels. There can be no doubt that Ukrainians from senior politicians down to senior security and police service officials, again and again, told Ruschia precisely the kind of resistance they would face. Whether or not they informed their masters in the power vertical of this, I can't know. But enough senior Ruschist security service experts on Ukraine did know that invading Ukraine would meet extremely stiff resistance.
Whenever I met senior western diplomats in eastern Ukraine, I ensured they understand that the evidence I collected from elected Ukrainian officials demonstrated a. that Ukraine would resist to the death and b. that they expected a full-scale invasion.
Yet, Putin made the decision himself without even consulting Medvedchuk.
Would Putin's soothsayer/False Ukrainian Priest Medvedchuk have admitted the polling was false? Maybe not.
But the entire basis of Putin's "I know better than everyone" was this false polling.
And so he expected a two-day war.
Instead, as became clear to experts like me within 48 hours of the full-scale invasion, Medvedchuk's entire treacherous network of Ukrainian leaders had melted away and become pro-Ukraine - What I characterised below (👇🏽) as - "Putin's Greatest Disappointment in Ukraine."
""He [Medvedchuk] told fairy tales, controlled all the
money he was paid for the organization of political resistance, and did not believe that anyone would ever check this," recalls a source close to the Russian presidential administration. "He spoke of the loyalty of the territory and stupidly misled Putin."

It’s appropriate to be speaking about our Disinfolklore Universe at a Pirate Party Munich Security conference event.
Those who founded the Pirate Party get what I am about to speak to you about.
There’s a flow between on the one hand culture, art, films, literature about pirates and geopolitical security.
Those whom we entrust with securing our conditions of civilised life don’t seem to understand this. This is partly why they’re such easy marks for Russian and MAGA Disinfolklore.
They get wrapped up so easily in Russian or MAGA trolls, like flies in a spider's web, it’s very hard for them even to understand they’re trapped inside Old Thinking.
Today I’m going to offer a perspective on what I call our Disinfolklore Universe. And I’m also going to offer a means to escape the troll memes wrap us up inside when we fall for MAGA or Russian Disinfolklore.
None of this is easy. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have all the answers.
Whenever you hear anyone talk about Disinformation or Disinfolklore as if it happens to other people. As if only stupid people fall for trolls. Whenever you hear chatter like that, be certain those people are easy marks for trolls. For MAGA and Russian Disinfolklore.
Today we live in a true Disinfolklore Universe.
The fabric of every dimension of our lives - work, personal relationships, life choices, fates - is infused with aspects of Druidey Don and Duncey Putin’s memetic onslaught.
Our Moods/Motivations/Intentions/Attitudes are being formed by what I call ‘Disinfolklore.’
Directly – through whichever media memes we consume.
Or indirectly, through our own minds and those of others, influencing us from archetypes created and evolving from Disinfolklore.

The movement I want to bring into our minds is turning, then the straightening. I am going to keep saying it.
Turning, then righting. I want to embed it, so that when our minds are being turned by someone, in real time, we recall this little mantra.

Now we have the AfD, supported by russia, riding high in the polls.

1. ruschists think Ukraine and US offering a ceasefire is Ukraine and US saying: We’re weak. russia eats weakness for dinner.

3. I monitored Russia’s ceasefires on the ground in Stanytsia luhansk’s eastern Ukraine for three years (2015-2018). While western capitals forgot about Ukraine, Russia broke the main Minsk ceasefires every day.
Meanwhile, Iran turns Saudi Arabia back into desert. You see, Donald can’t even protect Saudi Arabia. Ukraine’s not gonna lay down arms and let Russia turn it into desert.

First, that Putin's Ukrainian Godfather Medvedchuk was feeding Putin false polling that said Putin had a 46% approval rating in Ukraine. When Medvedchuk's pollster was arrested in Ukraine in March 2022 he told the arresting officers. "I'm innocent. Was feeding Putin Disinfolklore masquerading as scientific polling."
Those of us who understand how governance works in Ruschia understood: this was the problem. Ruschia had oodles of agents across Ukraine who themselves knew Putin was not popular. I myself sat in oodles of meetings with Ruschist diplomats while Ukrainian elected officials shot at them and Ruschia with both barrels. There can be no doubt that Ukrainians from senior politicians down to senior security and police service officials, again and again, told Ruschia precisely the kind of resistance they would face. Whether or not they informed their masters in the power vertical of this, I can't know. But enough senior Ruschist security service experts on Ukraine did know that invading Ukraine would meet extremely stiff resistance.
Whenever I met senior western diplomats in eastern Ukraine, I ensured they understand that the evidence I collected from elected Ukrainian officials demonstrated a. that Ukraine would resist to the death and b. that they expected a full-scale invasion.
Yet, Putin made the decision himself without even consulting Medvedchuk.
Would Putin's soothsayer/False Ukrainian Priest Medvedchuk have admitted the polling was false? Maybe not.
But the entire basis of Putin's "I know better than everyone" was this false polling.
And so he expected a two-day war.
Instead, as became clear to experts like me within 48 hours of the full-scale invasion, Medvedchuk's entire treacherous network of Ukrainian leaders had melted away and become pro-Ukraine - What I characterised below (👇🏽) as - "Putin's Greatest Disappointment in Ukraine."
