We are for the decriminalization of sex work in Ottawa, Ontario. Influenced @POWER_Ottawa we want to help sex workers receive the support they need. #DecrimOTT
Hey everyone, I’m at work right now after close. Someone has been violently hammering on the door for 30+ minutes. It’s just me and other workers and we’re terrified.
This is the point where you’re supposed to call the police, but I can’t. This is an illegal brothel.
#SexWorkers are human beings and, just like everyone else, deserve police protection and fair medical coverage. Too often, sex workers are forced to lie and say they do not/ no longer work in the industry so that a doctor will finally provide them with treatment. #DecrimOTT
There’s so much more to someone than being a sex worker. To see a glimpse into the reality and personal lives of sex workers, as well as some of their perspectives, we recommend checking out @MsLindsayIrene ‘s photography, interviews with Vice and upcoming book! #DecrimOTT
Anyone could be a sex worker: lawyers, waitresses, students, etc. Sex workers are valid members of society and deserve the same level of safety and workers rights as other trade workers. #DecrimOTT#sexwork#sexworkiswork
@KaraMCGillies Thanks for the feedback! We made the video very surface level so it would be easier for the public to follow. It was made based on the perspectives we gathered, but we’re always open to other narratives. We’d love to know more about your perspective on the matter.
Current legislation frowns on sex workers working together, which is often used as a way to ensure safety. Without the ability to check in on one another, the risk of harm (or even death) on the job is increased. #DecrimOTT#sexwork#SexWorkerRights#Sexworkiswork
@CDNSWAlliance Thanks for the feedback! We’re aware that not just buyers are punished, our goal was to illustrate a few issues + the need for decriminalization while keeping it simple for the public. We hope those inspired to learn more use your document & other accounts provided by sex workers
When advertising wasn’t illegal, sex workers has an easier time profiling their clients and ensuring their own safety. Current legislation puts them at in a compromised position that would otherwise be significantly lower. #DecrimOTT#sexwork#sexworkiswork

Why is sex work, work? Sex work is a valid trade because the workers provide a service in exchange for money. Paying someone to clean your house is the same as paying someone to provide companionship- Both provide a service to you in exchange for a predetermined price. #DecrimOTT
We invite all current and former sex workers to use our multiple social media posts and platforms to share their narratives and opinions. Your voices deserve to be heard, and should’ve have been listened to when they made the current legislation decisions. #DecrimOTT
