@realJennaEllis Frankly, a lot of ‘election data’ gurus from both sides seem to be doing little more than taking readings from coffee granules. The mail ballots/early voting in Dipstick County Idaho (pop 874) can’t be extrapolated. Polls are guesstimates in US races which huge margins of error.

@austincampbell @khoee My prediction: a ton of largely partisan ‘election data’ commentators jump on some granular data and extrapolate it to make them feel warm, but none of them appear to understand what margins of error actually mean. At the moment most contests shld be treated as ‘marginals’.

@tryingattimes Exactly. I’m old school….but classic example would be Conservative Freinds of Russia (to me it screamed influence op). To those on the inside (like Carrie Johnson) it’s just pushing closer business and cultural interests. It eventually imploded, but it worked for a time.

@tryingattimes I’m over simplifying here but: the ideological left reacts to ideological prompts (largely for free) the way ‘in’ to influencing the populist right has been by buying themselves in with £$€. Creating and amplifying division across spectrums is the key.
