In April 2025, Lorraina Robles, a U.S. military veteran from Wichita, was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer at just 33 years old.
One month earlier, she had returned from a year-long combat deployment in Africa, where she served under extreme conditions.
Shortly after coming home, she separated from the military.
Because her diagnosis came after leaving active service, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has refused to cover her treatment, stating her cancer is "not military related."
Her first round of chemotherapy failed.
She is now undergoing a more aggressive treatment, is frequently hospitalized, and requires full-time care from her husband while medical bills continue to mount.
