A TRUE LIFE STORY|| BRO GBILE AKANNI

It had been a bad week for me. Things were seriously falling apart. A sister had approached me and said, Bro, you are growing thin, what is the problem. I smiled and covered it up. After the fellowship, another sister rushed to ask me. Brother, are you okay? You have really reduced in weight.

Out of shame, I went home dejected, sad with a lot of questions in my mind. God why? Why have you refused to respond to my cries? That night I picked My bible to the prayer garden (we have a garden where we go to pray in FUTO). Enough is enough. Why should I continue to suffer like this when my father is the king? Just like Isaac told Esau while he was crying that Jacob had stolen his blessings. He said to him “…when you become restless, you will break his yoke off your neck”.

So, I became restless, I was broken inside. I needed a change, I needed to hear from God direct and not from any man. So that night, my night with the king, I wrestled with God.

Ah, ah, tears flowed like water down my cheek. People were in the garden praying and having various meetings but I did not care to know. THERE ARE TIMES IN A MAN'S LIFE THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO LET EMOTION PLAY OUT ESPECIALLY BEFORE GOD. Before God there should be no pretense, so superman, no gentleman but bare and open. Allow the tears to flow and pour out your heart to him.

I dropped on the ground in tears, groaning. A child has come to birth but there is no strength to deliver. No money to even eat. I had drank (empty) garri for one week and no hope in the week to come. The deadline for registration of practical was close and my contribution towards my final year group project was near.

As I lay on that grass, it started raining. People started running away to a shelter and hostel. Those close to me perhaps saw that I was in deep anguish refused to touch me but took my bible to a safe place. The rain was coming down heavily on me as I lay on the grass crying, tears mixing with the rain. I needed an answer and urgently. As time went by, I slept off. Then I had a very short dream, or was it a trance? I saw a bible come out from the cloud. The front cover opened and something was written on it, “JESUS IS LORD”. It closed and went back into the heavens. That was enough, that was all I needed.

Then I woke up and noticed that I was alone in the garden soaked with rain and in darkness. I hurried to the nearest shelter, there I saw my bible. The type of peace I had from that night was one that I have not had in the face of challenges. The next week was full of miracles, so much that I cannot explain, even from people I do not know.

LET ME ASK YOU:

"How long has it been since you talked with the Lord,
And told him your heart's hidden secrets?
How long since you prayed how long since you stayed,
On your knees till the light shone through?
How long has it been since your mind felt at ease,
How long since your heart knew no burden?
Can you call him your friend how long has it been since you knew that he cared for you?

Why worry when you have a father? Why worry when you can pray? Why wet your pillow when you can wet God’s feet with your tears? Why endure the pain when heaven have not sanctioned it? Are you fed up with the situation in your life, career, family etc? GO, HOLD ON TO THE HORN OF THE ALTAR and never let go until he attends to you. In fact he is waiting to hear you out.

Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
