GOAT! 🐐🇧🇷
The rise and fall of The Emperor, Adriano. Once dubbed the next Ronaldo, he was a star at 18 but played his last full season at 28.
This is his story. 🧵 👇
Brazil made huge mistakes going into the 2006 World Cup.
Had by far the best team on the planet in 2005. The Confederations Cup XI was frightening.
Cicinho the most inform fullback in football. Cafu & Roberto in awful form only started based on their name. Ronaldo way past it & functioned much better with Robinho starting.
Dropping Adriano for France game was an admission of weaknesses.
How does a stadium holding 200,000 people go completely silent?
#OnThisDay in 1950, @Uruguay beat Brazil 2-1 in the decisive match of the @FIFAWorldCup. Brazil needed only a draw. Ghiggia titled the coronation.
The Maracanazo.

France are much better and play far better football. Brazil 2002 weren’t convincing at all.
First game: Played okay but struggled to break down Turkey, went into HT 1-0 down, second half created a decent amount and pulled it back very late on.
Only 2 games that were easy were against poor teams (4-0 China & 5-2 Costa Rica)
Last 16:
Played awful vs Belgium and were lucky to go through
QF: Had a good 30-35 minutes, after red card England didn’t have the ability to trouble them. Nothing spectacular.
SF: Turkey: Even game, Turkey had most of the ball, Ronaldo goal opened it up, Brazil had loads of chances after that and missed countless chances but Turkey still offered some threat.
Final:
First half Germany dominated the ball, Brazil had all the big chances, Ronaldo missed 3. Then second half was all Germany, Brazils 2 goals against the run of play entirely, Kahn mistake, Germany missed numerous chances.
Overall just wasn’t convincing at all. Marcos played very well and kept them in games, a lot of goals came against the run of play.
England 3 Argentina 2. November 11 2005. Stade de Genève, Geneva. The last time we played Argentina. The best friendly I have ever been to as we were 1 nil down before Wayne Rooney equalised. We were 2 1 down in the 86th minute before Michael Owen scored 2 goals and we won.
In the early 2000s, Brazil vs Argentina each stood on the continent. Competitions, stars and games that mark a generation. What is the most striking thing about Brazil vs Argentina right now for you?
