Dangers of coffee?
Once again, the Sattvic Movement has outdone itself with this utter nonsense of a video that misleads public on coffee.
The Sattvic Movement is a pseudo-intellectual, pseudo-scientific, spinal-level thinking nationalistic activism from a scientifically illiterate couple, that is leveraged on peddling anti-science concepts, demonizing scientific progression, misinterpreting evidence, and misrepresenting clinical data all the while promoting ancient and primitive superstition written in the religious texts of Ayurveda which promotes culture-traditional dogmatism in healthcare. Even a grade 4 glioblastoma is not as malignant as Sattvic Movement is to India’s scientific temper.
In this video, Lady Sattvic speaks about three “facts” on why coffee is dangerous.
1/ Coffee is just for energizing temporarily and then people who drink coffee become lethargic.
2/ People get physically and psychologically dependent on coffee.
3/ Coffee dehydrates and destroys the lining of the stomach and causes constipation.
Her solution: Have warm herbal teas!
These statements are proof that mental constipation leads to verbal diarrhea and none of these are true.
Coffee does not produce a jerk and flaccid response in the nervous system, but caffeine may.
In fact, coffee as a dietary supplement for health/disease is one of the most scientifically studied aspects in clinical medicine.
Three cups of black coffee without milk or sugar daily have immense health benefits that you need to know about! The Sattvic Movement is just peddling a whole bunch of lies.
Coffee is significantly beneficial for the liver: it reduces fatty liver disease, reduced progression of fatty liver disease, reduces risk of developing cirrhosis and reduces risk of liver cancer development. See here https://t.co/wEborofOoF, here https://t.co/CkXD5ooqif and here https://t.co/25oHxALxt5
Coffee consumption does not only reduce risk of liver cancer, but also breast and endometrial cancer in women, colorectal and prostate cancers in men, reduces risk of dying from all causes, especially metabolic diseases such as diabetes and heart diseases and reduces risk of developing diabetes type 2 and Parkinson’s disease. See here https://t.co/iPel9c1TIA, here https://t.co/fB3AUKQ1t6 here https://t.co/9MZTbqkAxD
People do not get dependent on coffee, but caffeine. Do you know what else contains caffeine apart from coffee? Tea and chocolates. Yes. Dark chocolate contains 43g of caffeine in 100g, coffee contains 20-40g depending on preparatory methods and tea contains 11g caffeine in 100g.
So, is shifting to tea the solution to prevent caffeine dependency? Nope. Avoiding caffeinated products is.
What does that mean? It means that decaffeinated coffee is as good as whole coffee, because the “goodness and benefits on health” of coffee is not dependent on caffeine, but polyenol compounds in coffee. See here https://t.co/2sBck2culZ and here https://t.co/NbKRyj0ABx
And guess what, coffee and caffeine consumption was also significantly associated with decreased risk of depression. Yes, see here: https://t.co/jYlgT33I4g and hey also this – coffee intake was associated with lower incidence of chronic kidney disease, end-stage kidney disease and protein loss in urine. Damn. Coffee is the superhero we all need! See here - https://t.co/wvx4Ap1Syy
So go ahead and enjoy some raw and real/or decaff that will increase longevity, reduce heart and metabolic diseases, cancers and reduce risk of developing degenerative brain diseases.
Ok, so what about herbal teas? It is a bummer. There is absolutely no evidence from clinical studies to showcase that herbal teas are useful for anything other than featuring in misleading, stupid Instagram reels.
But wait, there is more on herbal teas. Herbal teas are not all that safe. Herbal teas, especially green tea extract infusions were associated with liver injury, liver failure and death or organ transplantation. The European Union warned and limited the use of green tea extracts in foods fearing liver damage among consumers. See here https://t.co/iPOUrV56Gp and here https://t.co/jPxawQn1Eo
And if you look at benefits of herbal teas versus adverse events of herbal teas in published literature, you will see that adverse events feature more.
Herbal teas have caused liver injury, liver failure, multiple organ failure, accelerated hypertension, paralysis, chronic liver injury, heart failure, brain strokes and brain failure and so much more in humans! See this link: https://t.co/Caoe9Rm51O
Oh, by the way, coffee does not increase blood pressure. In fact, it lowers it. So do not be too miserable on that. In habitual coffee users (3-5 cups a day), coffee had benefits on blood pressure parameters. Do not believe me? See here: https://t.co/ivXl0u79dM and about that destroying stomach lining and causing constipation – that was just bluff from the annoyingly sounding Lady Sattvic. See here https://t.co/xl4nVhcNDl
But is coffee safe for all?
No.
Pregnant women, please avoid more than 1-2 cups a day. See here: https://t.co/lZcBotutAA
So, what is this Sattvic Movement all about?
It is all about destroying the scientific temperament of the public in India and by misleading the public, they are creating more patients for the modern medicine hospitals to treat. Are they funded by Big Pharma? Hmmm, I wonder.
I am going to think that over a hot cup of black coffee. I think you should too!
And don’t forget to share this information with your herbal tea lover friends!
I am in trouble. I debunked one video from the Satvik Couple and I have been getting requests to debunk more of their videos. I took a close look at some of the videos sent to me, specifically on health and medicine and I am worried that the couple are misleading A LOT of people on Instagram regarding healthcare.
Let me tell you at first, that I have nothing against the couple, Subah and Harsh Saraf, because they have to make a living and they do so very passionately, by defrauding others. And they are good at it. It is what they were born to do. But it is a doctor's responsibility to debunk misinformation. So I'm going to debunk their health videos, one by one, as time permits.
Coming to the topic.
Table salt vs Iodized salt vs Himalayan (Rock) salt: The Satvik Movement is the greatest tomfoolery on Indians.
The video briefly explains, by giving false information on various types of salt, why Himalayan salt or "sendha namak" is the best, safest, healthiest salt there is, compared to Table salt and Iodized salt.
Everything the woman goes on about, is false. A million people have seen this video. Its so sad.
Satvik Lady says: Table salt is synthetic and contains anti-caking additives which makes it free flowing and has a lot of refining processes that makes it "chemical" and not natural. Iodized salt contains added synthetic iodine which is not good and can harm the fluid balance in the body. It is heavily marketed by companies and is promotional. Natural iodine can be consumed from green vegetables and lentils. Himalayan salt or Rock salt is natural, unrefined and without chemical additives and hence the best.
Everything is wrong about the above statements. Table salt is sodium chloride. It is REFINED and PROCESSED to remove other unwanted minerals, so that you are consuming only pure sodium chloride.
Approved and safe anti-caking agents are added to prevent it clumping to each other especially in humid regions.
Other additives during Table salt refining are fortification agents that improve nutritive value - for example, flouride for enamel health in countries that do not flouridate water and ferrous fumarate to prevent iron deficiency anemia. All of these additives are safe and approved by respective health regulatory bodies. https://t.co/N36UErR6yt
Iodized salt is refined sodium chloride with added iodine done to prevent iodine deficiency in countries where iodine intake is suboptimal from in natural diet. - an example is vegetarian diet. Contrary to what the lady says - vegetables and lentils ARE VERY POOR SOURCES of iodine. In fact, a predominatly fresh vegetable & fruit diet is considered a "low iodine diet." The lady is pulling off a complete bluff. It is quite worrisome.
https://t.co/uKbLNUlilN
The only vegetarian source of iodine is seaweed and good sources of iodine are mostly fish/seafood and other animal protein sources such as dairy and eggs. If you are not consuming such natural sources of iodine, then please use iodized salt in your diet and not plain table salt or Rock salt. Rock salt is very deficient in iodine and is not good for daily use.
https://t.co/AzXS5bWKLg
In India, the promotion of iodized salt was undertaken by the Government and not "marketed by companies." The Government of India accepted the recommendations of the Working Group and Study Group, and on the advice of the Central Council of Health in 1984 took a historic decision to iodize the entire edible salt in a phased manner by 1992 and included in the Seventh Five Year Plan (1985-1990) of Government of India - this formed part of the National Iodine Deficiency Program of India that took care of iodine-deficiency goiter disease in the population.

Sendha namak or Rock salt is unrefined salt. Its overglorified benefits are because it features in the pseudoscientific texts of Ayurveda - a primal collection of brilliant nonsense. It is just the solid mined form of salt which contains a lot of impurities. In fact, if we have to define which of these are actually "more chemical," then it has to be rock salt because it not only contains sodium chloride, but also gypsum (CaSO4) and sylvite (KCl), potassium sulfate and polyhalite (K2Ca2Mg(SO4)4.2H2O)!
In fact a study showed that despite rock salt containing additional "natural" nutrient-minerals, >30 g per day (approximately 6 teaspoons) would be required to make any meaningful contribution to nutrient intake, a level that would provide excessive sodium and potential harmful effects and hence the risk to public health from potentially harmful non-nutritive minerals should be addressed. https://t.co/9FDE7EOpGD
Rock salt is EXPENSIVE. It has NO additonal benefits over Table salt and is INFERIOR to Iodized salt. In fact, a study showed that when it comes to heart health and blood pressure, there was no difference between Rock salt or Table salt and the latter is a cheaper and more affordable option.

So the best salt there is, for the Indian community?
Iodized salt it is. But be careful, use it in moderation, because salt is salt. Add a bit to taste only.
The Satvik health videos are absolute clownery and a danger to public health. Who will take care of it?
The amount of paperwork for a Schengen visa is insane! Why is it so difficult to understand:
1. We are not interested in marrying your men, thank you
2. We are actually adding to the GDP of your country!!
We just celebrated his 1yr anniversary in the US.
To mark it, I wanted to tell his story and try to raise money for him. Not for basic needs, but for him to continue the violin lessons he had to stop for 2 years.
I want him to know the WORLD is rooting for him to make music

There is going to be a big backlash from the Homeopathy community in Kerala against me like before, not in form of scientific rebuttals, but personal attacks, shaming, giving out personal details and workplace harassment.
Sreevals Menon pictured below is a Homeopathic practitioner based in Kerala, who's main group, the IHK or Institute of Homeopaths of Kerala members were responsible for extreme forms of harassment I had to face while educating people on medical science that benefits public health.
The groups members attacked my Lab and doxxed the Lab people, shot live videos streamed on FB and called for violence against the Lab members including hurting the Lab director, an elderly man.
After four years of good faith collaboration with the Lab, I had to let them go, quite painfully for their personal safety and was left without a partner Lab to perform sample analysis for over a year.
Homeopaths go any lengths to defend their fraud businesses. I go any length to defend the people's health. There is a difference.
Ok hear me out and please let me know whom I should tag or file a complaint with for this serious issue.
A Chivas Regal 12 year old blended whiskey containing 40% alcohol costs 3300 Indian rupees for 1000ml. That is 330 rupees for 100ml, expensive. It's available only in authorized licensed shops, airports and government run outlets.
This Homeopathy "MEDICINE" called Sativol, prescribed by Homeopaths very frequently for treating "tiredness and fatigue", also contains 40% alcohol. It is 65 rupees for 100ml after discount and can be ordered from your home through online pharmacies! This alcohol is same quality, cheaper and comes to your home directly.
Any kid or student can do this. This has major health implications among our youth. What will it take to ban these "alcohol masquerading as medicines.?" Who will take this step? This is really worrying.
Looks like Homeopathy is just rival business against the real alcohol lobby and Homeopaths are glorified bar tenders.
Not just that! See the third picture. We just ordered APPROX 1000ml of 70-80% alcohol marketed as Homeopathy tincture, which was DELIVERED INSIDE THE HOSPITAL! It's pure alcohol and nothing else. And cheap and can be ordered in bulk by anyone, anywhere.
Homeopathy is just alcohol everything everywhere all at once.
This is crazy!
