THREAD 🧵 | The History of African Culture 🌍 Part 20

Africa was never a continent without history.

Long before European contact, African societies built complex systems of government, education, trade, religion, medicine, art, and architecture from Benin to Great Zimbabwe, Nubia to Mali.

But one thing stands out: COMMUNITY. 🤝🏿

A child wasn't raised by parents alone the whole community raised, taught, and protected them. Elders held history and wisdom. Proverbs, songs, dances, and oral tradition passed knowledge down generations.

No textbooks. No classrooms. No written histories in many places.

Yet knowledge survived.

Children also learned practical skills:
🌾 Farming 🛖 Building 🧺 Weaving ⚒️ Blacksmithing 🐄 Animal husbandry 🎣 Fishing 🌿 Medicine 🗣️ Leadership

Education was tied directly to life and survival.

And culture wasn't something people watched they lived it. In food, language, music, marriage, festivals, spirituality, names, greetings, birth, and death.

African culture was a complete way of life. 🌍❤️

And it was never singular thousands of peoples, languages, kingdoms, and traditions. That diversity is history, not weakness.

Then came a major disruption: European colonial expansion.

That's where the story turns.
