There was a wonderful event recently that marked the remarkable work of our College’s first female Fellow Jamini Sen.
Honorary Fellow @RRPillarisetti joined a special conversation with @DeeptaRC, her great-niece and author of Daktarin Jamini Sen, exploring her inspiring life.
On this day in 1871 Jamini Sen our first female Fellow was born.
Sen was the first woman to be admitted to the College in 1912 after passing the Fellowship examination as a surgeon. She was a pioneer who broke down barriers for women in medicine across the world.
The Snowdrop blooms through the frozen earth from early January until the end of February. The #snowdrop is a symbol of rebirth, renewal & hope, as its arrival in cold weather means other flowers will soon follow. #FolkloreSunday#FairyTaleTuesday#NewMoon in Capricorn is coming
Once the snow yearned for colour & the shy little snowdrop showed it a great kindness by offering up its own colour when all the brighter flowers had sneeringly refused. In return the snow protects the snowdrop from the harshness of winter. #LegendaryWednesday#WyrdWednesday
A decomposing figure holds up its own heart for contemplation. This transi was produced by sculptor François Pompon in the 19thC, and it’s in the Palais de beaux arts in Lille. It’s a reproduction of the one produced for the tomb of René de Chalon in Bar le Duc in the 16thC.
5. Bishopthorpe Palace viewed through the entrance gateway, c.1900. The gateway was designed by Thomas Atkinson in 1763 in the gothic style and was probably built largely from materials removed from Cawood Castle.
11 Nov is Old Samhain & this is when you should never go to the blackthorn to harvest its wood or berries as the moon fairies who guard the tree will curse you. A #fullmoon is the best time as then the guardian fairies leave the tree to worship their goddess. #FolkloreSunday

Ipsita Roy Chakraverti tells the Statesman -the word ‘witch’ comes from the old English word ‘wicce’ or ‘wicca’, meaning ‘wise’”, says Wiccan Priestess Ipsita Roy Chakraverti.
In her book Way of the Witch, she says that Wicca was not a religion; it was a path, a way of life.
