Humanitarian access must remain above politics. In Laascaanood and everywhere, people in need should never become collateral to political disagreements. Dialogue can protect sovereignty; humanitarian access protects lives.
The Government of the Republic of Somaliland has issued a press statement regarding the recent visit by a senior United Nations delegation to Laascaanood.

The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland has approved the Joint Declaration issued by the Republic of Somaliland and State of Israel.

International law did not die naturally; it was weakened by those who claimed to defend it it. When superpowers bend the rules, the foundations of global justice begin to erode.

Somaliland’s recognition is the result of decades of responsible statehood, resilience, and disciplined diplomacy. Once doubted by many, today we prove the impossible is achievable. Salute to all #Somaliland Foreign Ministers over the past 30 years who laid this foundation.
@M_Farlow Somaliland has pursued a distinctive model of statehood-building and diplomacy that differs markedly from internationally recognized post-conflict states in the HoA. I commend the President for the constructive step of engaging the former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
His Excellency, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) today met with former Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, underscoring Somaliland’s political maturity, institutional continuity, and national unity.
“Each of you, in your respective tenure, laid firm and lasting foundations for Somaliland’s engagement with the international community.
It is upon this collective legacy that we have advanced our diplomacy, consolidated our standing, and—by the grace of Allah—secured our first international recognition, with further progress anticipated.
This gathering is both an expression of national gratitude and a forum for principled strategic counsel.”
— @AbdirahmanIrro
SLand–UAE relations are rooted in long-standing mutual trust and a durable strategic partnership. In contrast, Somalia currently no position on this relationship, HSM’s administration facing significant challenges in exercising full and effective control even within Mogadishu.
Somaliland–UAE ties are built on centuries of brotherly cooperation and mutual respect. Our sovereignty is non-negotiable. Mogadishu has no say in Somaliland’s foreign relations.

Today, at the Presidential Palace, I received
@gidonsaar H.E. Mr. Gideon Sa’ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, and a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Somaliland, the first such visit by a foreign minister in 34 years after recognition. I conveyed my deep appreciation to the Government of Israel for its historic and courageous decision of 26 December 2025 to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland. This milestone reflects a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared interests, aimed at cooperation and stability without prejudice to any party.
I emphasized that this recognition opens a new chapter of formal diplomatic relations, security, economic, and development cooperation, serving the mutual interests of both nations and contributing positively to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
I also reaffirmed that Somaliland is a reliable and responsible partner, strategically positioned and committed to advancing regional and international peace, security, and constructive engagement.
Israel’s recognition of Somaliland reflects a broader geopolitical recalibration in the Horn of Africa, where credibility, security cooperation, and long-term stability are beginning to outweigh outdated political assumptions.
Thanks @mohamedabdirahm for sharing these insights.
Earlier today I spoke with Firstpost Africa on Somaliland’s momentous achievement and the shifting geopolitical dynamics in the Horn of Africa following Israel’s historic recognition.
Somalia, while making gradual progress, remains constrained by insecurity, fragmented federal–state relations, indirect electoral processes, and weaker institutions, which limit effective local-led development and democratic consolidation despite strong international support.
Somaliland and Somalia present contrasting governance trajectories: Somaliland has sustained relative security, locally led development, competitive political parties, regular elections, and functioning democratic institutions rooted in hybrid customary–formal governance,
Thank you, Israel, for raising Somaliland’s case at the UN Security Council. Somaliland will continue its pursuit of international recognition. After 34 years of support to Mogadishu with little progress, it is time for the world to recognize Somaliland’s self-made achievements as a model worth supporting #SomalilandRecognition #Israel
Recognition of Somaliland will strengthen regional peace, security, and stability. For over three decades, Somaliland has remained democratic, peaceful, and self-governing—unlike Somalia. It’s time for Somalia to focus on its own challenges and to be constructive. The illusion of Somali unity ended long ago.
We are proud to announce the 2025 Good Governance Heroes!
