A movement by Minneapolis public housing residents. We're organizing to stop the privatization, demolition & displacement of public housing & our communities.
Final projects tackled issues they care deeply about & uplifted their communities. We’re proud of these young leaders & excited for what’s ahead. Thank you, @umn_libartshub, for your support. We also extend our deep gratitude to our instructors, Samira Ali & Kaaha Kaahiye.
We wrapped up the pilot of the Glendale Organizing Corps last week! 🎉 High School students from Glendale Townhomes completed a 12-week paid training program focused on community organizing, history, and social justice.
As part of the larger film I am producing about public housing, I have been documenting the fight against the proposed demolition of public housing in Chelsea, Manhattan. This is guaranteed to be a historic battle for some of the country's last remaining public housing.
Check out the African American Historical & Cultural Study, which acknowledges the history of Glendale Townhomes, its contributions & DG&PHC. But, the mayor & majority of the CMs refused Glendale’s historic designation & have been blocking the votes since 2016. Go figure!

& has not been restored. We are in a recession, HUD has cut funding to both developers and nonprofit housing institutions, and Minnesota is facing a massive budget crisis starting in January 2026.
Glendale Townhomes just won the Nation’s Top Historic Award, yet MPHA continues to push demolition.
Here is a copy of the information MPHA sends to Glendale families every month—a retraumatizing reminder that MPHA plans to displace residents and demolish Glendale Townhomes.
Even though Glendale families continue to reject MPHA’s plans, the agency is still pushing forward with forced displacement. There is no accountability. They claim families will be relocated with Section 8 vouchers, but Section 8 funding was effectively eliminated under the Trump
marginalization & silencing from the Minneapolis political landscape and the housing non-profit industrial complex. Glendale families and youth will continue to organize & fight to save Glendale Townhomes, the last remaining Section 9 family housing in Minneapolis.
