The death penalty is a deeply flawed and draconian relic of the United States legal system that many Americans, especially younger voters across the political spectrum, no longer support. It is prone to errors, perpetuates racial bias, and drains public resources while failing to deter crime or make our communities safer.
Ending mass incarceration requires that this country end its obsession with retribution over other forms of meaningful accountability.
