Most of these are from safe seats with heavy DSA/extreme left dominance. That extreme left has been captured by Islamists has been hypothesized by Republicans for a while now. This targeting of Indian Americans (especially Hindu Americans) adds more weight to that hypothesis. It also explains the move towards the right of center by a sizable % of Indian American voters (majority still vote Democrat).

Shrinking of political space for Hindu Americans has been too rapid (within the last two election cycles) to be organic. There is likely big money and deeper agenda(s) at play here. Not clear whether the money has come from foreign state actors (Qatar/Pakistan, China) or from deep, ultra-left billionaire pockets within the country (Soros, other more secretive donors).

Organizations that are the face of these campaigns are minuscule with zero mass support - they add up to less than 1% of the total votes in most of the electorates. The only other ways they can influence these political candidates is money and latent commitment to Hinduphobic ideology.

In 2019, an eighth grade student in Texas started a science project in her bedroom.

She was trying to find a treatment for influenza, because she had once had a bad case of it.

Then the world changed around her project, and she changed the project.

Her name is Anika Chebrolu.

She is Indian American, and she was 14.

She had spent months studying past pandemics, working through databases of molecules, looking for one that could bind to a protein on the influenza virus and stop it working.

Then COVID-19 arrived.

Working with a mentor, she changed her target. Instead of influenza, she went after the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the part of the virus that lets it attach to human cells.

She screened through millions of compounds using software, looking for one that would selectively bind to that spike protein and potentially block it.

She found a lead molecule.

In October 2020, at 14, she won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, one of the most competitive science competitions for school students in the United States.

She was clear about what her work was and was not. A lead molecule is not a drug. It is a starting point that has to go through years of testing before anyone knows if it does anything in a human being.

But the world's biggest pharmaceutical companies were spending billions on the same protein at the same time, with thousands of researchers.

And a 14 year old, working from her bedroom on a school science project, was looking at exactly the right part of exactly the right virus.

Abdul El-Sayed @AbdulElSayed signed a pledge treating alleged “links” to the RSS as sufficient reason to reject political money.

So let’s apply that standard consistently.

This is guilt by association.

His birth mother reportedly worked for the Islamic American Relief Agency (IARA), which the U.S. Treasury designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist organization and said had provided financial support to Hamas, al-Qaeda, the Taliban and Osama bin Laden (you know, the guy who masterminded 9/11 which killed 3000 Americans).

His father-in-law, Jukaku Tayeb, has held leadership roles in CAIR-Michigan and ISNA. Both were named as unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation case, where DOJ says evidence presented at trial linked CAIR leaders to Hamas.

His political orbit: El-Sayed campaigned with Hasan Piker, who has said he has “no issue” with Hezbollah, and appeared alongside Amer Zahr, who has publicly invoked Hamas and Hezbollah in statements of solidarity.

Does any of this prove El-Sayed personally supports Hamas or Hezbollah?

No.

And that is exactly the point.

If mere association is enough to make political money suspect when it involves the RSS, why shouldn’t the same standard apply to his own family and political orbit?

Hamas and Hezbollah are U.S.-designated FTOs. The RSS isn’t.

Yet El-Sayed has signed onto a pledge specifically targeting political money allegedly connected to an organization associated with Hinduism’s political identity.

At minimum, that raises a serious question about whether the standard being applied to Hindu-American political participation is itself discriminatory. Political gatekeeping is pathetic.

You don’t get to demand guilt by association for Hindu-Americans while demanding individualized proof when the associations are closer to home. If this doesn’t wake up the Hindu American community I don’t know what will.

Look at the Indian diaspora in Britain and America.

Millions of Hindus live there, practise Hinduism, build temples and preserve their culture. Yet you rarely hear, “We want Hindu law,” “ban beef,” or “change your country to accommodate our religion.”

Now compare that with the constant battles over Sharia, halal, adhan and religious exemptions.

You can practise your religion without demanding that everyone else live by it.

At some point, we need to stop calling every criticism “Islamophobia”.

As Muslims, we need to be honest: we have an integration problem.
