Though our work is focused on changing institutional culture in our community (academia/STEM), we won't pretend that our Black colleagues aren't affected by the murder of #GeorgeFloyd or centuries of anti-Black violence. This is where the DEI Taskforce stands on police violence:
Our next event is coming up soon, we will be facilitating a virtual workshop on how to make your workspaces more inclusive for people with disabilities. This workshop, "Disability in STEM," will take place February 15th from 12-1:30 pm ET. We will have an ASL interpreter present.
To assist in planning, we are collecting answers to this question:

It's grad student appreciation week!! Faculty & admins: have you had a discussion with your peers about how you can compensate grad students for their unpaid labor?? Now is an especially great time to bring it up!
CIS PEOPLE: I WANT YOU TO TAKE HALF AN HOUR SOMETIME AND THINK ABOUT YOUR GENDER. REALLY THINK ABOUT IT, HARD. NOT BECAUSE YOU'RE POSSIBLY TRANS (THOUGH MAYBE YOU ARE, IDK), BUT BECAUSE IT'LL LEAD YOU TO BETTER UNDERSTAND A PART OF YOURSELF THAT SOCIETY LETS YOU LEAVE UNEXAMINED
To everyone who's donated to our strike fund: thank you. Your support is deeply appreciated. If you'd like to support us further, this is how to do it: https://t.co/wGlGx2gC6g

We stand in solidarity with @geo3550 and encourage all grad students to support our grad student union. Read literature, work on personal/professional development. Do not cross picket lines
The vote passes! GEO membership has authorized a strike, effective TOMORROW.
This is a historic moment: we are striking at the beginning of the year, in the midst of a pandemic, to protect our whole community.
IMPORTANT THREAD WITH NEXT STEPS:
Retweeting this for the third time today to make sure all our fabulous trans in STEM siblings see this! Also, the awesome @DoriMatG emailed and found out that applications are open worldwide :)
