I live by a code that scales. I do not lie, cheat, steal, enslave, or murder because I owe it to others, but because I owe it to myself. My survival, freedom, and flourishing require a moral reality. And that reality cannot be built on the ruins of reason or the corpses of men.
@michaeljknowles Decriminalization doesn’t “improve” cities. It just stops wasting lives and money on victimless crimes. Improvement is individuals free from cages for smoking a plant.
@RockChartrand There is no objectively good country, only countries that more or less protect individual rights. All states operate through coercion, so “good” is relative to how little they violate liberty.
@BobMurphyEcon Bob, hate to break it to you, but you just signed a binding agreement to be governed by the U.S. Constitution, accept all taxes, and waive your right to complain on Twitter. The receptionist did say it was just a HIPAA form, though. Totally legit.
@NSKinsella@RockChartrand If IP is legit, its proponents should bite the bullet, and adopt and defend the view of “primary property” developed by Andrew Galambos. His system makes Ayn Rand look like a squishy utilitarian moderate on the issue.
@TRHLofficial I armor it, teach it to trample tyrants, and ride it through the halls of power blasting Beethoven. If I’m stuck with a beast, it’s going to be the most dangerous symbol of liberty this world’s ever seen.
The philosopher says, “Here is my argument. Examine it.”
The scientist says, “Here is the evidence. Test it.”
The entrepreneur says, “Here is my product. Choose it.”
But the biblical God says, “Obey me or burn.”
@StefanMolyneux I do not lie, cheat, steal, enslave, or murder because I owe it to others, but because I owe it to myself. My survival, freedom, and flourishing require a moral reality. And that reality cannot be built on the ruins of reason or the corpses of men.
Rational consciousness represents something genuinely unprecedented: parts of the universe that can understand the universe itself, including the very laws that govern their own existence. Rational consciousness exists as the universe’s highest achievement.
@BobMurphyEcon Yaron Brook was asked recently if a time will ever come when all countries live in peace. He said yes, that’s the day selfishness wins. Selfish people don’t want to go to war, he said, war is not good for you.
Yet he can’t apply this reasoning to private defense firms.
@StefanMolyneux I do not lie, cheat, steal, enslave, or murder because I owe it to a god, or even my fellow man, but because I owe it to myself. My survival, freedom, and flourishing require a moral reality. And that reality cannot be built on the ruins of reason or the corpses of men.
@StefanMolyneux If God wrote the Ten Commandments, “Honor thy parents” would be “Don’t abuse your children.” The focus on child obedience over parental restraint reveals human authorship, written by those wanting their authority sanctified, not divine wisdom protecting the innocent.
@StefanMolyneux You say evil isn’t caused by ignorance, now you put all your hope in parenting, as if knowing good parenting creates good parents.
Aren’t you repackaging the same intellectual error you’re lamenting?
