This little girl is missx in Yaoundé after living behind this letter to her parents that she's gone to Douala to stay with her boyfriend & that they shouldn't look for her. Her neighbours say they saw her living with her bags that she's gox to meet her boyfriend at the park.

Paul Biya has failed Cameroon. The CPDM has failed Cameroon. Everyone, including them, knows it. But what is more painful is the recent report that details how they have particularly failed women.
In Cameroon, a woman who is beaten at home is often failed twice. First by the man who raised his hand to her. Then by a state that shrugged when she asked for help.
A woman in Douala walked into a police station expecting them to act. The officer took no notes, smiled, and said: "Truly! Women!" She went home and was beaten in front of her children for having dared to report it. Another was told by a female police commissioner to drop it, "because it is a family matter." A third spent nearly thirty years locked inside a compound, forbidden to leave, forbidden to speak to anyone, beaten when she disobeyed.
These are not rare horror stories. At MMI News, we do not read about this violence in reports filed from other capitals. Our reporters live it with the women of Cameroon. We cover it on the days nobody else is watching, in Maroua, in Douala, in Buea, in the towns where a beating is treated as a private matter and a widow is robbed of her own land while holding the papers that prove it is hers.
Human Rights Watch has now put numbers and names to what we have documented for years. A promise made in 2011 to halve violence against women. A Family Code left to rot in draft for more than two decades. One party and one president holding uninterrupted power, and uninterrupted responsibility, the whole time.
Being a woman in Cameroon should not mean living in constant peril. We will keep reporting it until that sentence stops being true.
