I think the split in the court's decision is WILD. The text of the constitutional amendment is pretty black and white. The administration's argument was a crazy stretch, to say it nicely.
This should have been 9-0. But with 5-4, it really feeds the lack of trust in SCOTUS.... that there are super partisan actors on the court that are ideologically inconsistent & will do anything to rule in favor of their preferred party (even if that means twisting themselves into a pretzel to do so in their opinions/ dissents).
This is a jaw-dropping, horrific surrender document complete with hundreds of billions in reparations. It is the predictable result of incompetent negotiation and the foolhardy strategic catastrophe of starting and pursuing this disastrous war. The U.S. will not soon recover from this, the biggest national security blunder in decades.
Buttigieg: We didn't know it, but we've all been trusting our lives to the restraint of whoever the president might be. And now we have a president who is completely unrestrained. And so the only answer to that is a functioning Congress.
It turns out we do not have a functioning Congress. The House of Representatives is not representative. One of the most important organs of our democracy is not democratic.
They say, "Oh, no. We're not manipulating the map to disempower black people. We're manipulating the map to disempower Democrats who happen to be black people.”
So, the time has come to make it impossible to manipulate the map for any reason and just have fair maps.
It’s not about arguments. It’s about facts.
I know one great fact about American elections, and I know it because the Republican Party has proved it to me:
There is no election fraud of any consequence anywhere in the United States.
The Republican Party and its allies, FOR DECADES, have been searching high and low, in every corner of our country, for evidence of election fraud.
This effort has been made with vast sums of money and other resources, and with some of the greatest powers in our nation at the party’s disposal:
A presidential commission under President Donald Trump.
The Department of Justice under President Donald Trump, armed with the resources of the FBI, and the powers of subpoena.
Committees of Congress under Republican control, also armed with the powers of subpoena and the investigative resources of the first branch of government.
State legislatures under Republican control, also with subpoena powers, have launched similar efforts to find evidence of election fraud.
Republican-controlled states have set up special commissions and task forces, some with subpoena powers, all well-funded and with access to the state’s electoral systems.
Conservative academics and think tanks have launched projects seeking out evidence of election fraud.
Fox News and the rest of MAGA media have dedicated significant resources to finding evidence of election fraud.
What is the result of this enormous Republican effort to find election fraud?
Ask The Heritage Foundation.
For nearly a decade, Heritage has maintained an “Election Fraud Database.”
The database contains “proven instances of election fraud.”
It covers elections going back nearly fifty years.
That’s billions and billions of American votes.
Right now, the total number of proven instances of election fraud that Heritage can document is:
1620.
That’s an infinitesimal number, vanishingly small, and it is solid proof of two things:
1. Some individuals commit election fraud.
2. There is no evidence at all of systemic or even widespread election fraud anywhere in the USA.
The election-fraud panic is the Big Lie of our time.
It is peddled by people who know better. Their own investigations over decades demonstrate that.
Stop trying to subvert our democracy.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.”
Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.
1. Whenever something like the killings in Minnesota happens, the press focuses on Trump and asks why Dems didn't stop him, but that dynamic leaves out the Republicans who enable him every single day. Thune, Johnson, et al bear a lot of responsibility for what happened
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier says that the United States is destroying the world order:
"But there is also the fact that our most important partner, the United States, has broken with the values that it helped to establish and, above all, has played a decisive role in shaping over decades"
"In my opinion, we have now moved beyond the stage where we can lament the lack of respect for international law or the erosion of the international order; we are far beyond that, I believe"
"Both disrespect and erosion are well advanced. I believe that, and I want to emphasise it a little"
"Today, the aim is to prevent the world from turning into a den of thieves, where the most unscrupulous take what they want"
"Where regions and entire countries are treated as property rather than major powers"
"Where even medium-sized states, such as ours, are being pushed to the margins of history, and where smaller and weaker states are left completely unprotected"
@gtconway3d@realDonaldTrump Please pay attention to what is happening to the press that covers the pentagon. It’s going to get worse across the board for trying to cover anything in this administration.
Very strong and important statement from the Pentagon Press Association about how its members may soon lose their credentials. Please read and share. A free press matters.
@designmom Th actual news conference had a lot more info than this, and this isn’t accurate - I watched it live. They said 10 shot, 1 deceased, several critical and several stable. AND serious concern of more victims inside but they can’t get in yet due to the horrible fire. Not good.
Point of significant context: The press already had to wear credentials and routinely has signed ground rules as needed.
What the Pentagon press corps has not done before is agreed to a policy that only published pre-approved talking points.
The FBI did a months-long full field background check of me b4 I could work at the WH - talked to my friends, neighbors, criminal check, financials, the whole nine. Now, 25 year olds get access to highly sensitive info w/o so much as a check of their social media accounts 🙃
If Elon Musk did in the private sector what he's doing in the public sector, he would face a multi-BILLION dollar class action lawsuit for illegal breaches of data privacy and transparency.
House Oversight Republicans spent two years subpoenaing and deposing every person who ever had a cup of coffee with Hunter Biden over the last 20 years, but now oppose a subpoena to hear from the person really running the government who hasn’t even had a confirmation hearing.
