Day 2 of #16DaysOfActivism and I am here to sound the alarm on female genital mutilation (FGM) in Nigeria. With an estimated 20 million survivors, representing 10% of the global total, Nigeria is home to one of the highest rates of FGM in the world, with girls at risk as young as

This horrifying practice is a violation of human rights and a severe form of violence against women and girls.

FGM perpetuates gender inequality and health risks, including infection, and childbirth complications. We must take a stand against this practice

It devastates lives, families, and communities, and it undermines the very foundations of human rights and gender equality.

in the range of billions of Naira. This is not only depriving our society of valuable talent and contributions, but also perpetuating a cycle of poverty and inequality that negatively impacts the entire nation.

Persons with disabilities face significant obstacles in accessing

essential services such as education, healthcare, and employment, leading to impoverished livelihoods and social isolation.

To establish a more inclusive society, it is imperative that we invest in the training and support of persons with disabilities.

When we neglect to include them in our communities, we are forfeiting the opportunity to harness their diverse skills, perspectives, and productivity that could benefit everyone.

The exclusion of persons with disabilities in Nigeria has been incurring an immense financial loss

When we consider the concept of inclusion, it is crucial to bear in mind that it extends beyond fulfilling a quota or meeting a requirement - it is about acknowledging the distinctive perspectives and valuable contributions that persons with disabilities bring to society.

Today we commemorate International Day of Peace, with this year's theme focused on Cultivating a Culture of Peace.

As a peacebuilder, I have devoted my work to promoting peace, inclusivity, and human rights for all.
