When I talk to new and aspiring PMs, they often voice that what's missing in the product resource space is hearing real-world product stories to learn from.

It's a PM's responsibility to reverse-engineer *the problem* from a requested *solution*. We can't force customers or executives to frame their requests in terms of outcomes. But, we can dig deeper to understand the underlying problem and suggest even better solutions.
