There are only two realistic ways to fix Social Security’s long-term funding gap:

1. Raise the official retirement age, or

2. Increase (or eliminate) the maximum wage base limit so higher earners pay Social Security tax on more of their income. Currently they pay no Social Security tax on income over $184,500.

Both options are politically difficult. But that’s what our elected representatives are supposed to do - tackle hard problems instead of kicking the can down the road.

Personally - I vote for option 2.
But both options are better than letting S. S. go bankrupt.

Marine veteran and double amputee Tony Mullis stopped on a Georgia highway after spotting a U.S. flag on the ground beside the busy interstate.

Mullis, who lost both legs after an explosion during his second tour in Afghanistan, got out of his SUV to retrieve the flag.

He said seeing the flag on the ground “broke my heart” because it reminded him of those who sacrificed for the country.
