Keeping Delta Safe Community Update - June 5, 2026
Proactive enforcement and investigative work remain central to how Delta Police supports community safety. Recent examples include:
E-Bike Stop Leads to Investigation and Breach Charges
File 26-9075: On May 21, 2026, at approximately 0230 hours, Delta Police observed a person riding an e-bike in North Delta without a helmet. After providing multiple false identities, he was detained for obstruction. After confirming his identity, it was determined that he was in breach of active conditions prohibiting possession of specific tools - which were located and seized. He was charged with obstruction and Fail to Comply with Undertaking and released with a future court date.
We are committed to proactively addressing unsafe riding behaviours and identifying risks that impact safety for all road users.
High-Risk Excavator Load Identified During Proactive Patrol
File 26-6176: On April 9, 2026, Delta Police conducted proactive commercial vehicle enforcement along Deltaport Way and observed a dump truck hauling a large excavator that was not secured properly. Additional concerns included loose aggregate, a tire defect, and no pre-trip inspection report. The excavator weighed approximately 32,000 lbs. The vehicle was taken out of service, tickets were issued, and a report was forwarded to CVSE.
Proactive commercial vehicle enforcement helps remove high-risk loads and unsafe equipment from Delta’s roads before they can endanger others.
Drone as First Responder
Over the last 60 days, Delta Police has conducted 27 operational Drone as First Responder (DFR) deployments in response to calls in progress, including assaults, weapons reports, thefts, break and enters, collisions, fires, and reports of incidents on the bridge. DFR missions provide rapid scene assessment before or as frontline officers arrive and are only launched in response to a call for service or training exercise - not for routine patrols.
Real-time aerial support helps officers assess and respond to incidents more quickly and effectively to calls across Delta.

#DidYouKnow: Electric kick scooters (EKS) are not permitted on public roads, bike lanes, or sidewalks in Delta, as our city is not participating in the provincial Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Project.
Delta Police are prioritizing education and enforcement around illegal micromobility use and issuing tickets where necessary. Parents and guardians allowing youth under 16 years of age to operate an EKS may also be subject to fines.
We are encouraging everyone to be aware and actively work together to keep our roads safe.

This Pride Month, Delta Police continues to stand in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
We recognize the importance of building a safe, diverse, and inclusive Delta, and are committed to fostering an environment where everyone is treated with dignity, fairness and respect.

Today is the beginning of #SeniorsWeek, and we are proud to continue supporting older adults in our community through ongoing outreach, education, wellness checks, and fraud prevention awareness.
Across Delta, seniors continue to play a vital role through volunteering, mentoring, supporting local organizations, caring for loved ones, and helping strengthen the sense of connection that makes our community thrive.
This week is a timely reminder for us to take the time to check in on the seniors in our lives, whether it’s a phone call, visit, or simple conversation, and to stay informed about frauds and scams that continue to target adults in our community. #DeltaPolice
As Motorcycle Safety Month comes to an end, it remains a year-round reminder that all road users share responsibility for safe driving behaviour.
🏍️ Motorcyclists:
• Wear proper protective gear
• Stay visible at all times
• Ride defensively
• Never ride impaired or fatigued
• Adjust speed for conditions
🚙 Drivers:
• Look twice at intersections and lane changes
• Check blind spots carefully
• Give motorcycles space
• Stay focused - no distractions
A few extra moments of awareness can help prevent serious collisions. Let’s all do our part to #ShareTheRoad and keep everyone safe.
#DeltaPolice #MotorcycleSafety
From our highways to our neighbourhood streets, we continue to see high-risk driving behaviours putting road users at risk.
Excessive speed, distraction, aggressive driving, and impaired driving remain major contributing factors in serious crashes across BC - and Delta is no exception.
DPD officers will continue conducting proactive enforcement throughout the community to help reduce dangerous driving behaviours and keep our roads safe for everyone.
A few extra minutes saved behind the wheel is never worth risking a collision, injury, or loss of life.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of swearing in five new Community Safety Officers (CSOs), officially welcoming them to the team as they begin their important work supporting public safety across Delta.
We are proud to note that our CSO program continues to serve as an important recruiting pathway into policing, with over 90% of CSOs going on to become sworn members in our department.
Please take a moment to say hello and wish them well as you see them out in our community.

Keeping Delta Safe Community Update - May 22, 2026
Delta Police continues proactive enforcement and investigations to help keep Delta safe. Recent examples include:
Cold Case Sexual Assault Investigation – Arrest Made
File 97-22196: Delta Police recently made an arrest in a historical sexual assault investigation dating back nearly 30 years. Advances in DNA analysis and a match through the national DNA databank linked the investigation to a previously unidentified suspect. The survivor has been updated and expressed appreciation that investigators continued pursuing the file. The investigation remains ongoing, with charges anticipated.
Supporting survivors and pursuing accountability remains a priority regardless of how much time has passed.
Project KINGPIN Investigation
File 24-4794: In early 2024, the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) investigated the theft of a shipping container containing $500,000 in e-bikes. The investigation uncovered an organized multi-jurisdictional crime group linked to thefts involving semi-trucks, trailers, and commercial cargo. Charge recommendations against three suspects were submitted this spring.
Disrupting organized property crime helps protect businesses and reduce repeat offending across the region.
Proactive Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest and Drug Seizure
File 26-8694: While conducting proactive enforcement in North Delta, the Traffic Specialty Dog Unit (TSDU) stopped a prohibited driver. Officers located suspected illicit drugs, cash, and trafficking-related substances during the arrest. PSD Ziva provided a positive indication inside the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Proactive enforcement helps disrupt drug trafficking and supply of illicit drugs coming into our community.

'Tis the season! 👟Another day, another Torch Run announcement! Hope to see our #Delta friends out alongside our @deltapolice law enforcement partners on Tuesday, June 9 for this year's Law Enforcement Torch Run®! 🙌 Register today!
With sunnier days here to stay in the foreseeable future, we are reminding riders to make sure their e-bikes meet legal requirements before heading out on the road.
Not all e-bikes are permitted in Delta. An e-bike is considered illegal if it:
• Does not have operable pedals
• Has a motor exceeding 500 watts
• Can exceed 32 km/h with motor assistance
If your e-bike doesn’t meet these standards, it may be classified differently under the law and could result in fines or enforcement action.
Safe, legal riding helps protect you and others on the road.

On April 30, 2026, the Delta Police Department (DPD) was honoured to host our Awards Ceremony, recognizing the outstanding contributions of officers, police staff, volunteers, and community members who have gone above and beyond in service to public safety in Delta.
Every year, the DPD responds to nearly 30,000 calls for service ranging from routine calls to incidents that can be life-altering for those involved. In those critical moments, members of our team and community step up in ways that reflect exceptional dedication, courage, and commitment.
This evening was an opportunity to highlight those individuals whose actions and contributions have made a meaningful impact on community safety and well-being, both in moments of crisis and through their everyday work.

Today, Delta Police had the pleasure of joining the @Cops4CancerCan Kick-Off at Scott Creek Middle School, marking the official start of the Tour’s 28th training and fundraising season.
We were represented by #TourdeValley members Cst. Lam and Cst. Tanino, who are among the 60+ riders and crew dedicating the next four months to raising funds and awareness for children and families impacted by cancer.
Their efforts will culminate in a 700-kilometre ride across the Lower Mainland this September in support of life-saving childhood cancer research and programs.

Recently, Delta Police hosted a Lower Mainland District Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Joint Forces Operation (LMDCVE JFO), with the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD), City of Surrey Bylaw Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE), Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE), and the BC Ministry of Finance in attendance.
During the operation:
• 27 commercial vehicles underwent inspection
• 8 inspections resulted in vehicles or drivers being placed Out Of Service
• 35 violations were identified
• 8 violation tickets were issued
• BC Ministry of Finance officers conducted 18 fuel tank inspections for marked fuel, resulting in zero violations
The primary concerns identified during this initiative included insecure cargo, defective tires, and one driver placed Out Of Service for false logbook entries.
This High Risk Driving Month, enforcement efforts such as these highlight the ongoing risks associated with unsafe commercial driving practices, including improper vehicle maintenance, unsecured loads, and non-compliance with hours-of-service requirements.
Our department and partners will continue to focus on education and enforcement to help keep our roads safer.
#DeltaPolice #LMDCVE #CommercialVehicleSafety
Today, we highlight our dedicated police staff who play a key role in supporting public safety throughout Delta.
This includes the Office of the Chief Constable (OCC), which provides leadership, strategic direction, community engagement, employee support, and essential administrative services that help guide our department.
We also recognize our Departmental Support Services (DSS) team, whose work in records management, court liaising, exhibits, purchasing, equipment support, and call-taking helps ensure officers and staff have the tools and resources needed to serve Delta effectively.
Supporting all areas of the department is our Information Technology (IT) Team, which maintains the secure systems, communications technology, digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity tools relied on across daily policing operations.
As #NationalPoliceWeek comes to a close, we thank all members and staff for their important work in keeping Delta safe and strong. #DeltaPolice
Yesterday, Delta Police partnered with @icbc , @surreyps, @LangleyRCMP, and @TransitPoliceBC for this year’s Project Swoop: a coordinated enforcement and education blitz focused on speed awareness and high-risk driving behaviours.
Our team carried out Speed Watch programs to reinforce the importance of slowing down behind the wheel and reducing risk to all road users.
As part of #CanadaRoadSafetyWeek, we are reminded that safe driving is a shared responsibility.
While campaigns such as #ProjectSwoop help bring attention to the issue, speeding and dangerous driving behaviours remain year-round concerns that #DeltaPolice is committed to addressing through ongoing enforcement and education.
